摘要： In combination, a container and a linerless cap (10) and a method of forming the cap. In the method the cap is molded from plastic and includes a top wall (12), an outer depending skirt (14) and an internal depending substantially annular wall (10) having an upper end (20) integral with and depending from the top wall (12) and a lower free end (22). Thereafter the free end is engaged by a curling tool (26) to progressively turn the free end away from the internal wall to curve the free end into a curvilinear compressible and resilient free end adapted to be engaged for sealing. The engageable free end of the seal can have a coil (24), O, U, J or quarter round cross sectional shape and can be a rim, plug or corner seal.

The cap (10) includes plastic and has a sealing surface (42) which is softer than contiguous plastic portions as a result of its method of forming which includes stretching. Where legends, or other well defined indicia, indicating opening is desired, the color changes can be localized in the skirt by providing thin sections (32a) which stretch preferentially and adjacent thicker sections (38) which remain substantially unstretched. The thin sections (32a) for example can be legend, or alternatively the thick sections (38) can be the legend while the thin sections (32a) provide a suitable background. The color changes employed by the invention can be accomplished by such phenomena as stress whitening inherent in various plastic materials. Alternatively, the color changes can be accomplished by mechanism such as the use of encapsulated staining or coloring agents incorporated in a suitable matrix

摘要： A tamper evident cap (10) for a container (36) having a plastic curled ring (16) at its lower end of reduced internal dimensions for engaging the underside of interfering means (43) on the container and which has induced stresses therein that enhance and reinforce its engaging function. In capping, the curled ring (16) is sufficiently resilient to pass about and below the container interfering means (43) and into interfering engagement therewith without rupturing the described lines of weaknesses (17). In the initial uncapping, either the peripheral line of weakness (17) will rupture leaving the ring on the container (36) or the vertical lines of weakness will rupture and separate the ring into segments while allowing the entire cap to be removed. In either embodiment clear evidence of tampering or opening is provided.
