    • Oral care compositions containing agents that are effective for treating and modifying teeth and mucosal surfaces to be hydrophobic are disclosed. Hydrophobic modification of teeth and other oral cavity surfaces imparts a variety of end use benefits including prevention of caries, erosion, wear, staining, sensitivity and desquamation as well as providing shine, smoothness and positive tooth feel benefits. The compositions contain selected surface active organophosphate compounds that deposit and adhere to teeth and other oral cavity surfaces forming a hydrophobic coating having prolonged retention thereon. By forming a "hydrophobic coating" on the oral cavity surface is meant that the hydrophobic character of the surface is increased as measured, for example, by an increase of at least about 10 degrees in the water contact angle of the surface after treatment. The increased hydrophobic character of the surface is maintained for a period of at least about 5 minutes and desirably longer such as at least about 10, at least about 20 or at least about 30 minutes. The compositions may contain additional hydrophobic materials to further increase hydrophobicity of the surface and/or functionality of the coating to provide surface protection and many other benefits.

    • Disclosed are oral care compositions and methods for overall cleaning, whitening and preventing, reducing or removing surface deposited stains on natural teeth and dental prosthesis, the compositions comprising in an orally acceptable carrier at least 0.1% by weight of a water-soluble or water-dispersible copolymer prepared by copolymerizing one or a mixture of vinyl pyrrolidone (VP) monomers with one or a mixture of C1-C19 alkyl carboxylic acid (AC) C2-C12 alkenyl ester monomers. Preferably, the compositions further comprise one or a mixture of other oral care agents selected from a water soluble alkali metal or ammonium tripolyphosphate in an amount at least about 0.5% by weight of the composition, an abrasive, preferably a precipitated silica abrasive, in an amount at least about 6% by weight of the composition and a bleaching agent in an amount at least about 0.1% by weight of the composition. This invention further relates to methods of cleaning, whitening and polishing natural teeth and dental prosthesis and of preventing, reducing or removing surface deposited stains from teeth by administering the present compositions.

    • Disclosed are compositions and methods for treating and modifying surfaces and for enhancing delivery of active agents to surfaces treated with the compositions, which comprise siloxane polymers functionalized with pendant moieties comprising anionic groups, specifically carboxylic acid groups. When applied to a suitable surface, the present composition comprising the carboxy functionalized siloxane polymers forms a substantially hydrophobic coating on the treated surface. These polymers effectively deposit on surfaces that have cationic sites, which are capable of forming bonds or linkages with the anionic groups of the polymer. The treated surface becomes hydrophobic due to the deposition of the carboxy functionalized siloxane polymer, which then imparts a variety of end use benefits to that surface such as ease of cleaning, stain removal and prevention, whitening, etc. The carboxy functionalized siloxane polymer further acts as a carrier to deposit active agents onto the surface and to improve retention and efficacy of said actives on the treated surface. The present compositions are useful in a variety of applications including oral care, hair and skin care, personal care, cosmetics, and fabric and hard surface cleaning and conditioning. Examples are oral compositions for use in cleaning and whitening of natural teeth and dental prosthesis; for preventing, reducing or removing plaque, calculus and surface deposited stains on teeth; and for providing shine, smoothness and positive feel benefits to teeth, the compositions comprising at least about 0.1% by weight of a dicarboxy functionalized siloxane polymer in a formulation that effectively deposits the polymer to teeth and other oral surfaces.
