    • The invention relates to a method for reducing interference between users in a mobile communications network (1) in which uplink transmissions from user equipment, UE (3), to a radio base station, RBS (5A, 5B), can be performed on at least two different carriers (C1, C2). The UE (3) support dynamic switching between CDM and TDM transmission mode and the RBS (5A, 5B) is arranged to dynamically set the mode of transmission for the UE (3). The method comprises the steps of: - identifying (S200) at least a first UE as a high data rate, HDR, UE currently requiring high data transmission rate; dedicating (S201) at least one of said at least two carriers (C1, C2) to said HDR UE for at least a first period of time (T), said at least one carrier (C1, C2) hereinafter being named clean carrier, and - allocating (S202) said at least first HDR UE to said clean carrier (C1, C2) during said at least first period of time (T). This method ensures that no UE operating in CDM mode is transmitting on the same carrier at the same time as the HDR UE.

    • The present invention relates to a network node and a method in a radio communications network for providing a radio interface between the radio base station and a mobile terminal, provided to assign transmission rates to the mobile terminal to be used in an uplink packet data channel from the mobile terminal to the radio base station. A receiver is provided to receive at least a first rate request from the mobile terminal requesting increased transmission rate, a measurement device is provided to measure the utilised transmission rate for the packet data transmission from the mobile terminal to the radio base station, and a message transmitter is provided to send a new grant message to the mobile terminal repeating the first transmission rate, if the measured transmission rate is lower than a first specified fraction of the assigned first transmission rate.

    • A radio access network node (28) allocates cell downlink power to a set of channels (e.g., DPCH channels) and to a high-speed shared channel. The node does not, after allocating power for the set of channels, allocate the entirety of a remainder of the cell downlink power to the high-speed shared channel. Rather, the node reserves a power margin (PM) amount of a remainder of the cell downlink power for possible use during a future timeslot of a channel of the set. A marginalized remainder of the cell downlink power (the remainder of the cell downlink power less the margin amount) is allocated to the high-speed shared channel. The high-speed shared channel for which the power allocation can be made can be either the high-speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) or the high-speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH).

    • The data transmission activity of established connections is monitored along with a measure of the load or drain on communication resources. When the load on communication resources increases or when it moves past a threshold, inactivity over an connection is not permitted or is permitted for a shorter time before releasing that user's connection. On the other hand, lower loads allow for a longer (or no) inactivity period before disconnecting the connection. Once inactivity on a connection exceeds the time determined based on load, that connection may be transferred to a lower capacity channel, e.g., a common channel. Alternatively, that inactive connection may be disconnected.
