    • Procedures are provided for the establishment of MBMS services in different cells of a cellular telecommunications network, in particular, for maintaining the transmission of MBMS data to a particular user equipment, even when it moves from one cell to another when the service is provided in different ways in different cells. In particular, when a user equipment receives a multimedia data service in a first cell via a certain type of connection (i.e. a point-to-point connection/ while requiring an RRC Connection, a point-to-multipoint connection without/ while requiring an RRC Connection), and moves to a second cell where the type of connection used to provide the service is different, specific actions are undertaken (e.g. request for an RRC Connection, release of an RRC Connection, etc)., depending on the type of connection change carried out. Embodiments for the establishment of the most adequate connection (p-t-p, p-t-m) in a cell are disclosed as well (e.g. by sending a message from a SRNC to a CRNC).

    • A radio network entity in charge of outer loop power control for a communication with a mobile radio is informed about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network. Another radio network entity, which sends a transmission power control signal to the mobile radio to control the mobile's transmit power level based on a target value, detects errors in data units received from the mobile radio and requests retransmission. Information associated with the requested retransmission is used to generate a revised target value. The target value may be revised by an outer loop power controller node or by an outer loop power controller entity in the same node as an ARQ entity that generates the information about erroneous data units, requested retransmissions, and/or data units transmission attempts associated with the data units sent by the mobile radio to the radio network.

    • Existing control plane protocol procedure(s) are employed to provide a SRNS relocation procedure to relocate a SRNS function from a source radio network controller (26 1 ) to a target radio network controller (26 2 ), even though a direct transport bearer (100) had previously been used between the source radio network controller and the Node-B. In example implementations, the existing control plane protocol procedure includes at least one of a NBAP procedure and a RNSAP procedure. In one mode of the invention, performance of the SRNS relocation procedure comprises a relocation request communicating step; a new transport bearer establishing step; a relocation triggering step; and a bearer switching step. In the relocation request communication step, the target radio network controller is notified that a relocation of the SRNS function is requested. In the new transport bearer establishing step, a new transport bearer between the target radio network controller and the Node-B. In the relocation triggering step, a relocation execution trigger message is sent from the source radio network controller to the target radio network controller. In the bearer switching step, a switch occurs from the direct transport bearer to the new transport bearer.
