摘要： An optical WDM network for use for instance in a larger e.g. meshed network is the hubbed type and comprises parallel fiber ring paths (1b), a hub (3h) and satellite nodes (3A, 3B, 3C) connected in the ring path. Client equipments are connected to the hub and the satellite nodes. A client equipment connected to the main node can communicate with a client equipment connected to any of the satellite nodes, using a number of wavelength channels equal to the number of client equipments in the satellite nodes. The wavelength channel used for transmission from the hub can e.g. be fixed or selected by a tunable optical transmitter (31). The WDM transmitters (9) in the satellite nodes transmits light signals in a fixed one of the wavelength channels to the fiber ring path. A single band drop filter (35) is arranged in the main node to receive the light signals from the satellite nodes. The band drop filter has a drop range selected to drop selected ones of the wavelength channels used by the WDM transmitters in the satellite nodes. This allows the use of light signals of wavelength channels outside the drop range of the band drop filter for carrying information in the network. In the network flexible connections are achieved in without using cross-connect elements.

摘要： An optical WDM ring network includes at least two add/drop nodes connected in a ring path. The ring path comprises only a single optical fiber (1) arranged for bidirectional traffic between the nodes. A 2x2 switch (33) is used in one (B) of the add/drop nodes for switching signals forwarded from the node to the other node (B) to travel either on a first segment of the ring path or on a second, complementary segment of the ring path when required for protection purposes. Signals from the other node to the first node are issued to travel on both segments but the switch selects the actual segment from which the signals are received in the first node. The signals switches by the switch can be high priority signals used in protected channels communicated between the node and another node. On the segment from which the high priority signals are not received, low priority signals in non-protected channels can be communicated between the nodes, these channels also passing the switch.

摘要： In an optical fiber network bidirectional WDM traffic is sent on one optical main transmission fiber (1) between two nodes (A, B) connected in the path of the transmission fiber. The bidirectio nal traffic between a pair of nodes is carried on two different wavelength channels (Nos. 1, 2), one for each direction. The twowavelength channels are added to/dropped from the traffic in the ring fiber (1) in each node using a two-channel add/drop filter (5e1-2, 5w1-2), e.g. a band add/drop filter. In this way the num ber of add/drop filters connected in the path of the transmissio n fiber can be kept as small as possible.
