    • A method for preparing difunctional compounds, e.g. diols, having high enantiomeric purity (compound If) from alpha -hydroxycarboxylic acid esters (compound Id) in an anhydrous medium by a) reducing compound (Id) into compound (If) in an organic solvent medium; b) adding to the reaction medium at least one coreagent which is substituted by at least one and preferably at least two XH or YH radicals, can move compound (If) in the intermediate from a), and has a higher boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure than compound (If); and c) directly distilling the reaction medium to recover said compound (If). The coreagent is pyrocatechol, hydride, NaBH4. The method may be used to prepare an intermediate for chiral synthesis.

    • Improved method for obtaining organosilanes comprising: a redistribution reaction between a chlorinated organohydrogenosilane of formula (1) (R)a(H)bSiCl4-a-b and an organo-substituted and optionally chlorinated silane of formula (2) (R')cSiCl4-c, formulae in which: a = 1 or 2; b = 1 or 2; a + b = 3; c = 1,2, 3 or 4; the symbols R and R', the same or different, represent alkyl and aryl radicals; the distribution reaction taking place in the presence of a sufficient amount of a catalyst consisting of a Lewis acid of formula (3) M(X)d in which: M represents a metal selected among Ti, Fe, Cu, Ag, Zn, Cd, Hg, Al, Ga, In, B, Sn, Pb, Sb, and Bi; X represents a halogen atom; d represents the valency of metal M; and separation by distillation of the chlorinated organohydrogenosilane produced by redistribution; the said method being characterised in that, after redistribution, at least one redistribution catalyst inhibiting compound satisfying the following definitions is used: it is selected among the fluid polyorganosiloxanes (POS) having a viscosity at 25 DEG C not exceeding 5000 mPa.s; it is used in such proportions that the ratio r = number of gram-atoms of metal M given by the catalyst/number of gram-atoms of oxygen given by the inhibitor does not exceed 0.9.
