The drop cable comprises at least one optical fiber (21) and one or more layers (22, 23, 24) surrounding the optical fiber(s). The method comprises the following steps: laying the drop cable so that its first end is brought to a first position at user's premises and its second end is brought to a second position close to a riser cable; collecting an extra-length of the drop cable at a third position intermediate between the first and second positions; removing at least one of the layers surrounding the optical fiber(s) from a portion (26) of the drop cable extra-length; and coiling the drop cable extra-length bared portion with a bending radius smaller than the minimum bending radius of the drop cable as a whole.
