    • The present invention concerns a cable for use in a predetermined voltage class, said cable for use in a predetermined voltage class, said cable comprising: - at least one conductor; a at least one extruded insulating layer surrounding said conductor, said insulating layer being made from a non-crosslinked insulating material comprising at least one thermoplastic polymer and at least one dielectric liquid, said insulating layer having a thickness such as to provide a voltage gradient on the outer surface of the cable insulating layer not smaller than 1.0 kV/mm; and - a protective element around said extruded insulating layer having a thickness and mechanical properties selected to provide a predetermined impact resistance capability, said protective element comprising at least one expanded polymeric layer, said thickness being sufficient to prevent a detectable insulating layer damage upon impact of at least 25 J energy. The insulating layer thickness and the protective element thickness can be selected in combination to minimize the overall cable weight while preventing a detectable insulating layer damage upon impact of at least 25 J energy.

    • The invention relates to a process for manufacturing a self-extinguishing cable comprising at least one transmissive element and at least one flame-retardant coating in a position radially external to said at least one transmissive element, wherein said at least one coating includes an expanded flame-retardant polymeric material comprising:(a) at least one expandable polymer; (b) at least one expanding agent; (c) at least one flame-retardant inorganic filler, in an amount of from 100 parts by weight to 250 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of said at least one expandable polymer; the process comprising the following steps: (i) feeding the flame-retardant polymeric material to an extruding apparatus, therein melting and mixing it; (ii) passing the flame-retardant polymeric material obtained in step (i) through at least one static mixer; (iii) depositing by extrusion the flame-retardant polymeric material obtained in step (ii) onto said at least one transmissive element conveyed to said extruding apparatus. The process of the invention allows to optimise the homogeneity and to maximize the expansion of said flame­retardant polymeric material. The cable so obtained is provided with both good mechanical and flame-retardant properties.

    • Cable comprising at least one electrical conductor and at least one extruded covering layer based on a thermoplastic polymer material in admixture with a dielectric liquid, wherein: - said thermoplastic polymer material is selected from: a) at least one propylene homopolymer or at least one copolymer of propylene with at least one olefin comonomer selected from ethylene and an alpha-olefin other than propylene, said homopolymer or copolymer having a melting point greater than or equal to 130°C and a melting enthalpy of from 20 J/g to 100 J/g; b) a mechanical mixture comprising at least one propylene homopolymer or copolymer (a) and (c) at least one elastomeric copolymer of ethylene with at least one aliphatic alpha-olefin, and optionally a polyene; - the concentration by weight of said dielectric liquid in said thermoplastic polymer material is less or equal to the saturation concentration of said dielectric liquid in said thermoplastic polymer material. The cable of the invention possesses good mechanical and electrical properties, including high dielectric strength, in particular enabling it to be used at high operating temperature.
