    • There is provided a positioning system that comprises a GPS device including a GPS receiver arranged to receive GPS satellite signals from a plurality of GPS satellites and an attenuation device arranged to attenuate GPS satellite signals such that when a GPS satellite is located in a first portion of sky the GPS satellite signals received by the GPS receiver from said GPS satellite are attenuated. A storage is provided to store satellite location information for the plurality of GPS satellites over time at a location of the GPS receiver, and a controller is provided to determine location information of the GPS device based on received GPS information from the GPS device, wherein the received GPS information comprises information on signal strengths of the GPS satellite signals received by the GPS receiver. If a signal strength for a first GPS satellite is lower than a threshold signal strength at a point in time then the controller is arranged to determine that the first GPS satellite is in the first portion of the sky and determine angle information of the GPS device relative to earth's normal and/or orientation information of the GPS device in a horizontal plane using the stored satellite location information.

    • The disclosure relates to an apparatus comprising a pole such as a light pole (1), and one or more removable modules (4) adapted to be removably fitted to the pole. The apparatus further comprises, included in the lighting module or another of the modules, a controller (14) comprising a wireless receiver (17) for wirelessly receiving on-off signals from a remote control system (19). An inductive coupling (22) between a primary winding (22i) in the light pole and a secondary winding (22ii) in the lighting module is used to transfer power from a power supply of the pole to at least one of the removable modules, in order to power an element of that module. Further, a magnetic coupling is used to enable the controller to control a switch (9) in the pole in order to connect and disconnect the primary winding to and from the power supply (6,7).

    • A method of automatically commissioning a lighting system comprising a plurality of luminaires for illuminating one or more regions within a space. The method comprises: receiving signals from a positioning system, indicating a respective location within the space at which each of a plurality of physical entities is detected by the positioning system, each of the entities being a person or a movable nonhuman object. The method further comprises determining a spatial distribution of at least some of the entities based on the locations indicated by the signals from the positioning system, and determining a region within the space corresponding to this spatial distribution. The method then comprises identifying a group of the luminaires that are arranged to illuminate the determined region and storing identifiers of those luminaires together as a group in a commissioning database.
