    • The present invention relates to an electronic device (300) comprising at least one trench capacitor (302) that can also take the form of an inverse structure, a pillar capacitor. An alternating layer sequence (308) of at least two dielectric layers (312, 316) and at least two electrically conductive layers (314, 318) is provided in the trench capacitor or on the pillar capacitor, such that the at least two electrically conductive layers are electrically isolated from each other and from the substrate by respective ones of the at least two dielectric layers. A set of internal contact pads (332, 334, 340) is provided, and each internal contact pad is connected with a respective one of the electrically conductive layers or with the substrate. By providing an individual internal contact pad for each of the electrically conductive layers, a range of switching opportunities is opened up that allows tuning the specific capacitance of the capacitor to a desired value. The electronic device of the invention thus provides a flexible trench-capacitor manufacturing platform for a multitude of combinations of electrically conductive layers with each other, or, when multiple trenches are used, between electrically conductive layers of different trench capacitors. On-chip applications such as a charge-pump circuit or a DC-to-DC voltage converter are claimed that benefit from the ultra-high capacitance density and the high breakdown voltage that can be achieved with the electronic device of the invention.

    • A power supply system comprises a parallel arrangement of a linear amplifier (LA) and a DC-DC converter (CO). The linear amplifier (LA) has an amplifier output to supply a first current (II) to the load (LO). The DC-DC converter (CO) comprises: a converter output for supplying a second current (12) to the load (LO), a first inductor (Ll), and a switch (SC) coupled to the first inductor (Ll) for generating a current in the first inductor (Ll), and a low-pass filter (FI) arranged between the first inductor (Ll) and the load (LO). The low pass filter (FI) comprises a first capacitor (Cl; CA) which has a first terminal coupled to the switch (SC) an a second terminal coupled to a reference voltage level (GND), and a second inductor (L2; LC) which has a first terminal coupled to the first inductor (Ll) and a second terminal coupled to the load (LO). The low-pass filter further comprises, either: (i) a series arrangement of a second capacitor (C2) and a damping resistor (R2), which series arrangement is arranged in parallel with the first capacitor (Cl), or (ii) a parallel arrangement of a third capacitor (CB) and a damping resistor (RB) arranged in series with the first capacitor (CA), or (iii) a series arrangement of a third inductor (L3) and a damping resistor (R3), which series arrangement is arranged in parallel with the second inductor (L2), or (iv) a parallel arrangement of a fourth inductor (LD) and a damping resistor (RD), which parallel arrangement is arranged in series with the second inductor (LC).

    • A sigma-delta modulator (SDM) including n (n>=1) integrators in series, where a first of the n integrators receiving an input signal, at least one Q device, which acts as a quantizer when an absolute value of a signal input thereto is smaller and as a gain element (either with or without offset) when the absolute value of the signal input thereto is larger, and a device for quantizing an output of the unit.
