摘要： In scalable video coding where two predictive motion vectors are calculated: one from the current layer neighboring motion vectors and one from the co-located base layer motion vectors. One of the two predictive motion vectors is chosen as the predictive motion vector for current block. A flag bit is coded to indicate which predictive motion vector is chosen only if it is not possible to infer the layer from which the predictive motion vector for the current block comes. Such inference is possible in many situations, such as when both predictive motion vectors are substantially the same, or only one of the vectors is reliable or available.

In the update operation in motion compensated temporal filtering for video coding, an interpolation filter is adaptively selected from a short filter and a long filter so that the update signal can be obtained through the interpolation of prediction residue based on the interpolation filter. A short filter refers to a filter with a relatively small number of filter taps such as two. A long filter refers to a filter with a more than two filter taps.

摘要： A method, program product and device for encoding and/or decoding video data can include treating coefficients in the enhancement layer corresponding to a non-zero coefficient in the base layer differently than a coefficient in the enhancement layer corresponding to a zero coefficient in the base layer. The sign of the base layer quantized coefficient can also be used as it indicates how the reconstructed error differs from the original signal. The coefficient of independent spatial transforms can be arranged into subbands and the encoding of the subbands can utilize spatial information and coded block flags and end of block flags to reduce bit rate. Rather than feeding the coefficients into a context-based adaptive binary arithmetic coding engine on a block-by-block basis, the subbands can be passed into the engine. Subband coefficients may be removed in a controlled manner, leading to a reduced bit-rate.

摘要： Systems and methods provide a parameterized scheduling system that incorporates end-user application awareness and can be used with scheduling groups that contain data streams from heterogeneous applications. Data packets are analyzed at multiple protocol levels to detect characteristics associated with communicating the packets. The data packets are filtered so that detecting the characteristics is efficiently performed. The detected characteristics can be used for scheduling transmission of the packets. The detected characteristics can be used to dynamically change scheduling parameters. The dynamic scheduling parameters can maximize user Quality of Experience (QoE) in response to recurring network patterns, one-time events, application characteristics, protocol characteristics, device characteristics, service level agreements, or combinations thereof. Scheduling parameters may also incorporate notions of "duration neglect" and "recency effect" in an end-user's perception of video quality in order to manage video traffic during periods of congestion.

摘要： A method and system for coding and decoding information associated with video compression is described. The video sequence is processed in a plurality of frames. Each frame of the plurality of frames is processed in a plurality of macroblocks. A prediction of an original video signal, which is a part of a macroblock, in a current frame, is constructed from the video sequence. A residual signal is formed by subtracting the prediction of the original video signal from the original video signal in the current frame. A transform to the residual signal is applied. A plurality of transform coefficients is quantized. A symbol of at least one syntax element that defines a characteristic of the residual signal is identified. Symbols of the at least one syntax element of a same category are coded together.

A plurality of transform coefficients is quantized. A refinement coefficient is mapped to a ternary refinement symbol. Refinement symbols are grouped in a certain coding order. The refinement symbol groups are coded using variable length codes.

摘要： This disclosure is directed to video coding techniques that support normal single layer video coding, or scalable video coding with features such as signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) scalability and spatial scalability. A video coding device may implement these techniques in a video decoder that includes a motion compensation module and a filter. The motion compensation module decodes a prediction frame from a digital video signal, wherein the motion compensation module determines each block of the inter-coded frame from motion vectors encoded in the digital video signal. The filter adaptively filters one or more of the inter-coded blocks based on a signal either encoded or inferred from the digital video signal. In some instances, the video decoder may adaptively apply different filter functions, one in the horizontal and another in the vertical direction, based on the signal. By implementing these techniques, the video decoder may increase the visual quality of the resulting decoded digital video signal while reducing complexity.
