    • In fluidized spray drying of a feedstock to produce an agglomerate product by means of at least one spraying device (7) arranged in the upper part (2) of a vertically disposed drying chamber (1), in a lower part of which a fluid-bed is accommodated, a drying gas introduced into a processing zone (16) of the chamber (1) is exhausted through an integrated arrangement of filter elements (11) in the upper chamber part (2) to retain and allow agglomerationof the particles carried by the flow of drying gas on the filter elements (11). By intermittent supply of reverse flow gas pulses to the filter elements (11) the retained particles are released and returned to agglomeration zones (16, 17). The drying gas is introduced at a rate producing at the filter walls (13) a flow rate amounting to at least 150 cubic meters per hour per square meter of filter wall surface. In the non-operative condition of the spray drying apparatus the filter elements (11) may be cleaned-in-place by supplying a cleaning liquid to the interior of the elements.

    • In a preferred process for treating a first gas medium containing an acidic material, the process comprising comminuting calcium oxide in a second flowing gaseous medium containing water to form particulates of calcium hydrate sorbent suspended in the second flowing gaseous medium. The particulates in the second gaseous medium are conveyed to a spray dryer absorber and the particulates are contacted in the spray dryer absorber with the first gaseous medium in admixture with an aqueous material for a time sufficient to allow at least some of the acidic material to react with said particulates to form solid products. At least some of the solid products are separated from the first gaseous medium.

    • A process for treating a gas such as desulfurizing a flue gas. The process includes comminuting calcium oxide in a flowing first gaseous medium containing water in a comminuting zone to form particulates of calcium hydroxide suspended in the first gaseous medium. The particulates in the first gaseous medium are contacted with a second gaseous medium containing at least one acidic moiety reactive with said calcium hydroxide in a recirculating reaction zone for a time sufficient to obtain reaction between the calcium hydroxide and the acidic moiety to produce a solid reaction product. A third gaseous medium including particulates and solid reaction products is withdrawn from the reaction zone and at least some of the solids from the third gaseous medium are separated and at least a portion of the separated solids are recycled to at least one of the reaction zone and the comminuting zone.
