    • A telephone line interface circuit (10) provides an interface between a telephone line (11, 12) and line powered telephone circuits. A first portion (20) of the circuit presents predetermined impedance, current and voltage characteristics to the telephone line (11, 12). A serial regulator portion (30) is coupled to receive current from the line (11, 12) and has an output terminal for providing a regulated output voltage as a supply voltage for the first portion (20) and for the line powered telephone circuits. In this way, current drawn from the line is shared between the first portion (20) and the serial regulator portion (30).

A switch (78), which has a control input coupled to the output (76) of the logic circuitry (74), is enabled on receipt of the unlocking signal so that power, including the power portion (102) of the encoded input signal, at the first input (70) of the control circuit (52) is supplied to the output of the switch for energising the igniter element (54). In the firing mode the power supplied via the enabled switch fires the igniter element (54).

    • A rotation sensor (5) comprises a fixed member (10) and a rotatable member (20). The fixed member (10) contains a radiation emitter (40) which emits radiation along a path (35). The rotatable member (20) rotates about an axis (65) substantially perpendicular to the path (35) and has a head containing slots (25) arranged to periodically transmit and block the radiation emitted by the emitter (40). The fixed member (10) also has a radiation detector (50) which detects radiation transmitted by the slots (25) of the rotatable member (20). Thus the rotational movement of the rotatable member (20) with respect to the fixed member (10) is sensed by the frequency of the radiation detected by the radiation detector (50).

    • An igniter device for use in automotiver airbags includes two pins (16, 17) used as male connecting elements to a firing system. One pin (16) is directly connected to an electrically conductive header (18) and the other pin (17) extends through the header (18) and is insulated therefrom by means of a glass seal (20) which provides full hermeticity to the device. A semiconductor igniter die (21) is bonded on its underside to the conductive surface of the header (18) and is connected to the pin (17) via a wire (22) connected to a bond pad on the top side of the die. The semiconductor die (21) has a bottom surface of the die which provides a contact so that only one wire bond is needed on the top surface. A can body (23), of relatively thin wall thickness and made of nickel, iron or other ferromagnetic material has a flange (25) which is hermetically sealed to the header (18). A cavity is therefore created that is filled with a predetermined amount of pyrotechnic material (24).
