    • A wireless two-way communications apparatus (700) having a radio resource manager (706) is configured and arranged to effect one or more modes of operation (203, 204, 206, and 207) as a function, at least in part, of whether the apparatus is presently operating in a power saving mode of operation (201) and/or is presently supporting an active plesiochronous communication session (202 and 205). Pursuant to one approach, when the apparatus is operating in a power saving mode of operation and presently supports such a communication session and when the apparatus further determines (301) that a wireless access point beacon or supplemental beacon is at least largely coincident with a scheduled active window of that communication session, the apparatus can determine (302) whether to facilitate rescheduling a next monitoring of the beacon or supplemental beacon and/or altering the scheduled active window itself to thereby render the beacon or supplemental beacon monitorable by the apparatus.

    • A wireless communication unit (120) polls (200) a radio access point (110) at a certain frequency. The wireless communication unit (120) then determines (210) whether packets are received in response to the polling and determines (220) the percentage of polls resulting in receipt of packets. The wireless communication unit (120) then adjusts (230) the polling frequency to change the number of polls which result in the receipt of packets. Optionally, the wireless communication unit (120) repolls (240) the radio access point (110) when a packet in not received. Then, the wireless communication unit (120) plays (250) the packet at a certain time. Alternatively, the wireless communication unit (120) receives (310) packets without polling and determines (220) a radio access point frequency at which packets arrive at the radio access point (110). The polling frequency is then set (330) to approximately the radio access point frequency.

    • An Access Point (AP) (110) receives a first set of timing information comprising timing information for at least one neighboring AP (111-113) and conveys, to a user equipment (UE) (103), a second set of timing information comprising timing information for the at least one neighboring AP, wherein the second set of timing information is derived from the first set of timing information. Based on the second set of timing information, the UE is able to determine a time to scan the at least one neighboring AP. In various embodiments of the present invention, the AP may receive the first set of timing information from another UE (102) or may receive the timing information without the involvement of the another UE, for example, via a network interconnecting the APs or by monitoring an air interface of the at least one neighboring AP.
