    • Disclosed is a method for mounting a forklift to the rear of a vehicle such as a truck or trailer. The method includes providing a forklift in a vehicle, the forklift having a frame, a pair of spaced apart front wheels and at least one rear wheel. The forklift also has a pair of forks that are movably mounted to the frame, the pair of forks movable in at least a vertical direction relative to the frame. The vehicle has a rearward end with a fork support that receives the pair of forks of the forklift. The mounting system includes a pair of mounting brackets, each of the mounting brackets being fixedly attached to the forklift frame or the rearward end of the vehicle and having an opening defined therethrough. The opening has a closed perimeter. Also included is a pair of receiving pins, the receiving pins being dimensioned such that they can slide through the opening in each of the mounting brackets. The receiving pins have a supporting position and a release position. The supporting position of the pins results in a horizontal disposition thereof and rigid attachment of the forklift to the rearward end of the vehicle. Mounting of the forklift to the rearward end of the vehicle is afforded when the openings of the mounting brackets are in alignment with the supporting position of the pins and the pins are in the supporting position while being located through the openings of the mounting brackets.

    • This invention relates to a top mount method, a top mount system (41) and a combination of forklift truck (1) and carrying vehicle (5) having such a top mount system. The top mount method differs from the known methods in that the forklift truck lifting assembly (11) at least is provided with a remote control unit (33) to permit the operator of the forklift to mount the forklift onto the carrying vehicle (5) from a position remote from the forklift. The top mount system (41) comprises a track (7) having a carriage (9) slidably mounted therein and a ram (49) for moving the carriage relative the track. This obviates the need to use the drive of the forklift under remote operation. Finally, there is provided a combination of a forklift and a carrying vehicle having the top mount system which together provide a useful and safer alternative to the known combinations.

The mounting kit comprises a mounting frame having a pair of tine receiving sockets (35, 37), a pair of forklift support receiving brackets (15, 17) and a pair of adjustable wheel abutment plates (19, 21 ), one on each side of the tine receiving sockets, moveable forwards and backwards parallel to the longitudinal axis of the carrier vehicle. By having such an arrangement, various different forms of piggyback forklift truck may be mounted onto a chassis having the mounting kit thereon.

    • Disclosed is an improved mounting system for mounting a forklift to the rear of a vehicle such as a truck or trailer. The mounting system includes in combination a forklift and a vehicle, the forklift having a frame, a pair of spaced apart front wheels and at least one rear wheel. The forklift also has a pair of forks that are movably mounted to the frame, the pair of forks movable in at least a vertical direction relative to the frame. The vehicle has a rearward end with a fork support that receives the pair of forks of the forklift. The supporting position of the pins results in a horizontal disposition thereof and rigid attachment to the forklift frame or rearward end of the vehicle which does not have the mounting brackets attached thereto. The release position results from the receiving pins being removed from the supporting position. Mounting of the forklift to the rearward end of the vehicle is afforded when the openings of the mounting brackets are in alignment with the supporting position of the pins and the pins are in the supporting position while being located through the openings of the mounting brackets.

    • This invention relates to a truck mounted forklift for mounting on the rear of a carrying vehicle, the truck mounted forklift having a lifting assembly mounted on the chassis, the lifting assembly comprising a linkage, the linkage comprising: an elongate first link connected at its proximal end to the chassis by a pivot joint; an elongate second link connected at its proximal end to the distal end of the first link by a pivot joint; a fork carriage connected to the distal end of the second link by a pivot joint; a plurality of link cylinders for actuating the links; and a tilt cylinder for actuating the fork carriage. By having such a truck mounted forklift, top far side loads will be accessible without the lifting assembly coming into contact with the roof of the carrying vehicle or with bottom near side loads. Additionally, the front wheels of the truck mounted forklift will not need to be positioned under the carrying vehicle to reach top far side loads. This will minimise the time needed to load and unload carrying vehicles.
