    • The invention has made it possible to diagnose the infection of a patient specimen with a hepatitis C virus (HCV) by amplifying a cDNA, which has been prepared from an RNA extracted and separated from the specimen, by subjecting it to PCR with a specified primer and fractionating the product of PCR by electrophoresis to thereby detect the occurrence of the amplification of a cDNA with a specified sequence and a specified length indicative of the presence of HCV. The invention has made it possible to detect HCV and diagnose the infection of a patient specimen with HCV also by amplifying a cDNA, which has been prepared from an RNA extracted and separated from the specimen, by subjecting it to PCR with a specified primer and detecting the amplifications of a cDNA, which has a specified sequence indicative of the presence of HCV, through hybridization using a probe which selectively hybridizes with said cDNA.
