    • A concentrator (10) is used for concentrating a fluid, particularly a plasma component out of blood, for treatment of a patient. The concentrator apparatus (10) includes a main housing (12) defining a centrifuge chamber ( 14), that also holds the filter (38). The concentrator (10) allows viewing of the fluid after centrifuging, with an outlet port (32) positionable at a height corresponding to the level of the fraction of the fluid to be further concentrated. Once the fluid is centrifuged, a portion of the fluid is drawn through the outlet (32), and then pressured past the filter (38) to further concentrate the fluid using the same vessel (10) as used for centrifuging. The same plunger (68) is preferably used to draw centrifuged fluid from the centrifuge chamber (14) as to pressure the centrifuged fluid past the filter (38).

    • A bone fragment wire (10) connects a bone fragment (30) to an anchor bone (32) for healing duration. The bone fragment wire (10) has a distal bone penetration section (22) which is advanced into the bone (20) and a proximal bone exterior section (24). The proximal bone exterior section (24) is longer than the bone penetration section (22), and thus extends substantially out of the bone (20) during healing of the bone (20). The bone penetration section (22) includes a distal bone anchor section (12) which threadingly engages the anchor bone (32), and a proximal fragment section (14) of small diameter. The fragment section (14) fits within the overbore created by advancing the bone anchor section (12) through the bone fragment (30), and thus extends through but does not positively engage the bone fragment (30). A compression engagement (36) on a distal end of the bone exterior section (24) provides a compression shoulder (38). In one embodiment the compression engagement (36) is provided by a threaded compression nut (40), while in another embodiment the compression engagement (36) is permanently affixed to the bone wire (10). The shoulder (38) makes substantial contact with an exterior surface of the bone fragment (30), biasing the bone fragment (30) towards the anchor bone (32) with a controlled compression force. The compression engagement (36) is further adapted, such as through thread from and/or with a sloped proximal side, to enable the bone wire (10) to be more easily removed from the healed fracture without damaging surrounding tissue.

    • An external fixator (10) includes a main body (12) and an outrigger (14) for extending over a fractured joint, such as a wrist joint. The main body (12) can be positioned next to a right arm, or flipped over and positioned next to a left arm. The outrigger (14) is attachable to extend either to the left or to the right of the main body (12), as appropriate. A distal body is removeably connectable to the distal end of the main body (12), and the the distal body can be affixed to bone on the opposite side of the fracture to immobilize the joint where the fracture occurs. The distal body (18) is connected to the main body (12) with an adjustable securement section which provides six degrees of adjustment freedom. The outrigger (14) is attached to the main body (12) through a slide plate in a dual rail configuration which provides two dimensions of adjustment. Fragment pin supports (24) ride in a track (98) of the outrigger (14) , and provide seven degrees of adjustment freedom for directed fixation of fragments at the fracture site. The outrigger (14) is pivotally adjustable relative to the main body (12), and includes track portions (98) separated by a wrap around angle. The major components of the fixator are molded of plastic. A surgical technique using the fixator (10) includes immobilizing the joint for an initial healing duration and retaining fragment pins in place during a secondary healing duration.
