摘要： The present invention provides medicament-containing cyanoacrylate adhesive formulations for sealing wounds. The adhesive comprises a cyanoacrylate, a substance, and a defect forming agent, wherein the defect forming agent is capable of being removed from a cured cyanoacrylate matrix by solvation in an aqueous solution whereby a plurality of defects in the matrix are formed permitting release of the substance from the matrix at a controlled rate.

摘要： The present invention provides a wound approximation device and method for safely applying cyanoacrylate or other adhesives to skin lacerations. The wound approximation device comprises a resilient sheet and an opening, wherein the opening is of a sufficient size such that it surrounds a skin wound and exposes a margin of skin surrounding the wound when the resilient sheet in a streched form is placed against the skin, and wherein a portion of the resilient sheet adjacent to the opening and opposite to a side of the resilient sheet to be placed against the skin comprises a substance which does not form a strong bond with a wound-sealing adhesive used to seal the wound.

摘要： An apparatus for closing a vascular wound includes an apparatus that can be threaded over a guidewire into place at or adjacent the wound. The apparatus includes a chamber that encloses a hemostatic material therein. When the apparatus is positioned adjacent the wound as desired, the hemostatic material is deployed from the chamber. Blood contacts the hemostatic material, and blood clotting preferably is facilitated by a hemostatic agent within the material. Thus, the vascular puncture wound is sealed by blood clot formation.

摘要： A thin chitosan-based material can be used for biomedical applications. The chitosan has been treated in a nitrogen field by applying energy to ionize nitrogen in and around the chitosan material. A single or multiple such treatments may be employed. For example, the chitosan material may be irradiated under nitrogen using γ-irradiation, treated under a nitrogen plasma, or both. A thin chitosan material can be readily treated by surface modifying treatments such as irradiating under nitrogen using γ-irradiation, treating under a nitrogen plasma, or both.

摘要： A device (100) which facilitates the closure of puncture wounds in the vasculature of a patient is used in conjunction with a guidewire, and helps locate and isolate the site of the puncture wound in the patient. The retractor (100) moves the surrounding tissue laterally when positioned in the patient, and acts as a guide for the physician in locating the exact site of the wound. A double-sleeved balloon can be used in conjunction with the retractor (100) to move the tissues laterally and form a tunnel from the surface of the patient's body to the puncture site. The retractor (100) is preferably used in combination with a surgical clip applicator which delivers clips to the site of the wound, but can also be used with other methods of wound closure such as suturing and stapling.
