    • A method for transmitting messages to alter the operating status between a mobile station and a base station in a wireless access system comprises, at the mobile station, transmitting a first message to the base station, setting a first count to a first predetermined value and enabling a first, the first message requesting a alteration in operating status between the mobile station and the base station, whereupon expiration of the first timer before receiving a second message from the base station, the count is decremented and, if the count is above a second predetermined value, the first timer is reset and the first message is retransmitted to the base station. The method also comprises, at a base station, receiving the first message, transmitting a second message to the mobile station and enabling a second timer, whereupon expiration of the second timer, the alteration in operating status is effected.

    • A method of performing network re-entry of a mobile station based on restart of a base station and an apparatus for performing the same are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of receiving a first message from a base station, the first message including a restart count of which value is varied whenever the base station is restarted; comparing the restart count value with a count value previously stored; and transmitting a second message to the base station if the count values are different from each other, the second message including a first identifier for identifying the mobile station in respect of connection information (context) of the mobile station and a ranging purpose indication field set to a value indicating network re-entry due to restart of the base station.

According to one embodiment of the present invention, the present invention provides a method for a mobile station to receive information on a peripheral base station from a serving base station that operates in a mixed mode in the mobile communication system in which the legacy system and the advanced system coexist, and the method comprises the steps of: receiving a second message that includes first time information for indicating a time when a first message is broadcasted, in a first region for the legacy system of the serving base station through a second region for the advanced system of the serving base station; and receiving the first message from the first region by using the first time information.
