    • The present invention relates to a mobile communication system, and more specifically, to a method and a device for managing carriers allocated to a terminal in a broadband wireless access system that supports multi-carrier. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for managing carriers by a terminal in a broadband wireless access system supporting multi-carrier can comprise the steps of: transmitting, to a base station, activation request information for requesting the activation of at least one second carrier allocated from the base station through a first carrier; receiving, from the base station, a first message that includes activation indication information for indicating the activation of at least one target carrier of the at least one second carrier; and transmitting to the base station a second message which notifies the base station whether the at least one target carrier is ready per activation. At this point, it is desirable to determine the activation request information according to the power state of the terminal.

    • The present invention discloses a communication method for a femto base station in consideration of a legacy terminal, and an operating technique of terminals based on an improved system in the communication method. The femto base station communicates using a frame structure including only a preamble, FCH, and DL-MAP as legacy system information to enable the legacy terminal to detect the femto base station. Moreover, the femto base station converts modes to use a frame structure in which a legacy area and an improved system area are sequentially included in necessity to connect with the legacy terminal. Therefore, the legacy terminal detects the femto base station to perform handover/interference control. The improved system terminal which operates in L mode detects the femto base station to perform handover/interference control too.
