摘要： Novel gas-permeable membranes which are particularly useful in the packaging of fresh cut fruit and vegetables, and other respiring biological materials. The membranes have an O2 permeability of at least 775,000 ml/m .atm.24hrs, a P10 ratio of at least 1.3, and a ratio of CO2 permeability to O2 permeability (R) of at least 1.5, and are made by forming thin polymeric coatings on microporous polymeric films. Preferred coating polymers are side chain crystalline polymers. Preferred microporous films contain inorganic fillers, particularly such films based on ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene or polypropylene. Figure (1) illustrates how O2 permeability and R ratio vary for different coating polymers and microporous films.

摘要： Orthopedic casts which comprise a casting polymer of melting point Tm which is preferably from 40 to 60 DEG C. The casting polymer is preferably coated onto an elastically deformed fabric, so that the cast recovers when heated to a temperature above Tm. The cast preferably has an air flow permeability of 10 to 35 % resulting from the presence of apertures of area 0.01 to 0.08 cm , so that it can be rapidly heated by means of a hot air gun. Preferred casting polymers comprise a side chain crystallizable (SCC) polymer, particularly one containing units derived from styrene or another high Tg monomer. The addition of certain other polymers, e.g. an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, and/or certain inorganic fillers, e.g. calcium carbonate, wollastonite and talc, results in improved balance of tensile strength and elongation.

摘要： A novel thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) which comprises (i) polymeric A blocks in which there are side chains comprising crystallizable moieties having a melting point Tq, and (ii) at least one amorphous polymeric B block having a glass transition point, Tgs, which is less than (Tq - 10) DEG C. The relative proportions and molecular weights of the A and B blocks can be adjusted so as to produce desired physical properties with comparatively little change in Tq, which depends chiefly upon the nature of the crystallizable moieties, which may be for example n-alkyl groups containing 12 to 50 carbon atoms. The novel TPE's show a sharply reduced viscosity in the region of Tq, and can be melt-processed at temperatures close to Tq. The novel TPE's are useful in the form of compositions, shaped articles and assemblies which comprise one of the novel TPE's and a second component which is mixed with, or surrounded by, or surrounds or otherwise provides a substrate for, the TPE. Preferred second components are explosives and other energetic materials, pharmaceuticals, seeds, perfumes, deodorizers, pest control agents, herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, biologically active materials, agrichemicals, and disinfectants. Second components can be released from such a composition or shaped article by a natural increase in the ambient temperature or by heating the composition or article to a temperature at least equal to Tq by means of heat which is (i) generated artificially or (ii) generated by a mammalian body and/or (iii) is conveyed artificially to the composition, article or assembly.
