摘要： An apparatus includes a scaffold configured to be disposed in a bone. The scaffold is configured to move from a first configuration to a second configuration. The scaffold in the second configuration is expanded from the first configuration. A selectively-expandable actuator is configured to be removably disposed within the scaffold. The selectively-expandable actuator is configured to move at least a portion of the scaffold to the second configuration when the selectively-expandable actuator is moved to an expanded configuration. A shape of the selectively-expandable actuator is substantially the same as a shape of the scaffold when the selectively-expandable actuator and the scaffold are in the second configuration. The selectively-expandable actuator configured to be removed from the scaffold when in a collapsed configuration. The scaffold is configured to remain substantially in the second configuration after the scaffold has been expanded by the actuator.

摘要： Systems and methods for directionally controlling expansion and for radioscopic visualization of the positioning of an expandable device are described. One such device includes an expandable body comprising a first wall portion (53) and a second wall portion (55). The first wall portion comprises a high elasticity material (54). The second wall portion comprises a material having an elasticity lower (56) than the elasticity of the first wall portion. When the body is expanded, expansion of the second wall portion is constrained more than expansion of the first wall portion. Expansion of the body is directed outwardly from the high elasticity first wall portion (Fig 2). Such a device is useful for providing cavities an interior body regions. A radiopaque marking pattern (59) can be configured to allow for visualizing radioscopically the orientation and movement of the expandable body m unexpended and expanded states in an interior body region

摘要： Several embodiments of cutting tips for tools for creating voids in interior body regions are provided. The cutting tips provide for rotational and translational cutting. An actuator mechanism for deploying a cutting tip converts the rotational movement of a wheel into translational movement of a plunger rod. The actuator mechanism provides positive cutting action as the cutting tip is moved from a first, non-deployed position to a second, deployed position and from the second, deployed position to the first, non-deployed position. Methods of creating a void in bone provide one or more mechanical cutting tools that may be used in combination with one or more expandable void-creating structures to form a void of a desired size and configuration.

摘要： A surgical access device can include a plurality of retractor members that together define a lumen having a first cross-sectional dimension. Each of the plurality of retractor members can be moved radially outward to at least a second cross-sectional dimension to create a surgical access passage. The surgical access device, systems and kits comprising the surgical access device, and methods of using the surgical access device can include a mechanism for inserting an elongate member from exterior the body to the surgical site, a mechanism for moving the retractor members radially outward, a mechanism for guiding the radially outward movement of the retractor members, a mechanism for securing each of the retractor members in a range of positions, and a mechanism for illuminating the surgical site. Variations of the devices, systems, kits, and methods are useful for creating and maintaining a surgical access passage for performing minimally invasive surgery.

In one described method, an expansible body (50) comprising a body material substantially resistant to at least one of a biocompatible filler material and a chemical component of the biocompatible filler material may be inserted into a treatment area along a path established by a hollow member (20) . The expansible body may then be expanded within the treatment area. The biocompatible filler material may be inserted into the treatment area while the expansible body is expanded therein.
