摘要： The present invention relates to controlling a page cache memory in devices which are implemented to run both best effort (BE) applications and simultaneously real time stream applications, where the controlling is based on adapting the buffer size dynamically to these applications. The aim of the present invention is therefore to maintain the power consumption associated with storage means, especially hard disk drive (HDD), for such real time stream and best effort applications optimally.

摘要： A device and a method for managing power consumption of a plurality of data processing units. A scheduler (280) schedules a first process step for a first data processing unit (200) consuming a high power within a first deadline and a second process step for a second data processing unit (240) also consuming a high power within a second deadline. The scheduler further schedules the first process step and the second process step such that the two process steps do not occur concurrently thereby reducing the peak power draw from a power supply whilst preserving deadlines. This is particularly beneficial in battery-operated equipment, such as portable electronic multimedia devices, since peak power drain has been found to be an important factor in determining the battery capacity.

摘要： Portable devices are usually synchronized with servers like personal computers. Furthermore, most portable devices provide a user with the possibility to generate data objects or to obtain data objects from other sources than the personal computer. This means that of certain data objects a backup exists, as they are stored on the personal computer. Other data objects are unique, as the user does not have a backup at his or her disposal. Energy is a precious commodity in portable devices. A memory, in particular a volatile memory, consumes power. In case energy is required for keeping data objects stored, of which no backup is at the disposal of the user, but this energy might not be available in the future due to battery level, storage of data objects of which a backup exists is sacrificed for the benefit of storage of data objects for which there is no backup.

摘要： A memory controller (40) is adaptable to scaling of a system clock frequency, to enable another device (10) to access a memory (20), and has a part for outputting control signals having some timing characteristics not entirely scalable with scaling of the system clock frequency. In response to an indication of a change in a frequency of the system clock, the memory controller adapts the part autonomously to enable it to output new digital memory control signals synchronized to the changed system clock and which also have the non scalable timing characteristics. This avoids the need for the processor to adapt the memory controller. Hence the adaptation can be carried out more quickly, leading to less disruption to other parts of the system and means the frequency scaling can be carried out more often.
