摘要： E-mail communication is afforded to young children not yet able to operate the user interface or to form or read e-mail messages. The child arranges symbolic blocks on a peg board in an arrangement that conveys a message which the system translates into language. The child also places on or near the pegboard a token to which a picture is affixed, the token containing the e-mail address of an intended recipient of the message, e.g. daddy. The language-form message is then transmitted by the system to the recipient as an e-mail message. The recipient can send back a symbolic counterpart of a message by entering the message in language form so that the symbolic counterpart is then displayed on the LCD of the peg board.

摘要： A system is provided for guiding the selection of a value for each of a plurality of parameters needed to perform a procedure with a medical system (100). The system includes a first knowledge base (210) comprising procedures and treatment regimes, a second knowledge base (212) comprising patient information and therapy history, and a third knowledge base (214) comprising clinical guidelines. A domain ontology (220) provides the semantic mapping between information in the first, second, and third knowledge bases. A system configuration database (226) contains physical characteristics pertaining to the medical system and a system characteristics database (228) contains mathematical formulas and algorithms for calibrating the medical system based on the data in the system configuration database. An interference engine (224) is also provided for generating a set of parameters based on the information in the first, second, and third knowledge bases, the system configuration database, and the system characteristics database.

摘要： A context-aware decision-support system automatically selects the clinical guideline pertaining to the patient's medical care and automatically deduces the current stage in the guideline (S312, S336). The system tracks a patient's progress through the guideline to maintain a determination as to the current stage (S304, S336). Based on the current stage and patient-specific information, an unsolicited recommendation is presented on-screen, accompanied by one or more grades representing the level of evidence underlying the recommendation (S344).

The device is operable to determine context by displaying a flow diagram of a clinical guideline so the clinician can select the current step in treatment (S630). Initial, automatic display of decision support data can be restricted to clinical data only (S420). Data pertinent to the current decision, and therefore automatically selected for display, can be highlighted (S340) when appearing in screens subsequently brought up by the clinician.
