    • An electrical actuation mechanism (40) adapted for use in a disc brake assembly (10) includes an electrical actuation mechanism (40) adapted to be secured to an inboard leg (12) of the caliper (11) of the disc brake assembly (10). The electrical actuation mechanism (40) includes a housing (41) and electrical motor (42) disposed in the housing (41) and a spindle (43) disposed in the housing (41) and operatively coupled to the motor (42) by a conversion gear assembly (48, 44, 43) which is effective to convert rotary motion generated by the motor (42) into axial movement. A dampening structure (53) can be comprised of elastomeric material (52) or a fluid filled chamber (85) defined between the piston (71) and the shaft (72). The dampening structure (63) reduces the radial loads acted upon the piston (71) from being transmitted to the shaft (72). The electrical actuation mechanism (40) may also be equipped with sensor (99) for sensing the axial position of the piston (71), a clutch, to couple and uncouple the electric motor (42) from the conversion gear assembly (48, 44, 43) and a mechanism (100) which prevents back drive motion of the electrical motor (42).
