    • A method of securing a vehicle at a desired location using a wheel chocking device (30) having a chock (38) movable between a lowered position and a raised position. The method comprises the steps of positioning the vehicle at the desired location with the chock (38) in the lowered position, raising the chock to the raised position, moving the raised chock toward a wheel of the vehicle, sensing the presence of an obstruction on the vehicle, lowering the raised chock to an intermediate position to allow the chock to pass under the obstruction, and contacting the chock with the wheel. The wheel chocking device (30) includes a drive mechanism (40) that is positioned underneath the chock so that the vehicle actually drives over the drive mechanism. The drive mechanism is simplified with the use of a drive screw (152) and a partial drive nut (148, 154) that facilitates the use of support members (156) for supporting the drive screw at spaced locations along the length of the drive screw. A multi-link chock facilitates use of the device on wheels of varying sizes.

    • A wheel chocking device (13) having a wheel chock (34) that can be raised from a retracted position to a raised position. In the retracted position, the wheel chock (34) is substantially flat, thereby allowing a truck (36) to be driven over the wheel chock (34). In the raised position, the wheel chock (34) can be engaged with the wheel (36) of a truck to prevent the truck from driving away from a loading dock. In one embodiment, movement of the chock (34) is provided by pneumatic cylinders (120) that drive cables (124) or chains associated with pneumatic pistons (122) positioned within the cylinders (120). As the chock (34) is moved from the distal position, the chock (34) can raise from a lowered position to an intermediate position (3). The chock (34) is then moved toward the vehicle wheel (36). Upon contact with the wheel (36), the chock (34) will raise from the intermediate position to the fully raised position. In another embodiment, the chock (136) can be inserted laterally from the side of the wheel (36).

    • An improved support and attachment mechanism for a dock leveler lift bag. The dock leveler (1) includes a supporting structure or frame (5) which is mounted in a pit (2) in a loading dock (3) and the pit has a forwardly sloping floor (4). The rear end of the ramp (6) is pivoted to the supporting structure (5), so that the ramp can be pivoted between a horizontal position and an upwardly inclined position. A bag support member (18) is located in the pit (2) beneath the ramp (6) and is pivoted to the rear end of the ramp. An inflatable bag assembly (11) is located adjacent the rear end of the ramp (6) and is positioned between the underside of the ramp and the bag support member. By inflating the bag assembly, the ramp can be pivoted from the horizontal position to the upwardly inclined position. Guide members, such as rollers (24), are mounted on the forward end of the bag support member and ride on the floor (4) of the pit (2) as the bag assembly (11) is inflated and the ramp (6) is pivoted upwardly.

    • A support and attachment mechanism for a dock leveler lift bag. The dock leveler (1) includes a supporting structure (4) which is mounted in a pit (2) in a loading dock (3) and the rear end of a ramp (5) is pivoted to the supporting structure so that the ramp (5) is movable between a horizontal position and an upwardly inclined position. A bag support member (16) is pivoted to the supporting structure and is located in the pit beneath the ramp (5). An inflatable bag assembly (10) is located adjacent the rear end of the ramp and is positioned between the underside of the ramp (5) and the bag support member (16). By inflating the bag assembly (10), the ramp can be pivoted from the horizontal to the upwardly inclined position. The bag assembly (10) includes a rearwardly extending tether (21) which is secured to the supporting structure (16) and prevents the bag assembly (10) from squeezing forwardly as the bag assembly is inflated. The deflated bag assembly can be drawn upwardly against the underside of the ramp by pivotal movement of the bag support member (16) to provide access to the pit.
