摘要： Method and apparatus for continuously casting metal strip. Molte n metal is introduced between a pair of parallel chilled casting rolls (16) via an elongate metal delivery nozzle (18) disposed above and extending along the nip between the casting rolls (16) to form a casting pool (68) supported on the rolls and contra-rotating the rolls to produce a solidified strip (20). The molten metal is delivered into a trough (67) of the nozzle (18) through an entry nozzle (18) having an upper inlet end for receiving molten metal from a tundish, and a lower outlet end (84) extending into trough (61) of the delivery nozzle (19). The outlet end (84) of entry nozzle (18) has a bottom wall (86), elongate side walls (88) spaced inwardly from the side walls (62) of the delivery nozzle (19) and outlets (92) for molten metal in the side walls (88).

摘要： Low carbon steel strip (20) cast continuously by a twin roll strip caster comprising casting rolls (16) is treated as it comes from the caster and while it is in line with the caster by a) cooling in a first cooler (111) to a temperature at which austenite in the steel transforms to ferrite and/or other low temperature products, b) reheating in furnace (112) to a temperature not greater than 1200 DEG C at which ferrite and/or other low temperature phases in the strip are retransformed to austenite, and c) recooling in cooler (113) to retransform austenite in the strip to ferrite. The strip may be passed through reduction rolls (114, 115) to reduce its thickness before it is cooled for the first time.

摘要： Continuous casting of steel strip in twin-roll caster comprises casting rolls (16). Molten steel is delivered by a delivery system and comprising delivery nozzle (19b) to casting pool (30) supported above nip (10) between the casting rolls (16) which are rotated to deliver a solidified strip (20) downwardly from the nip. To avoid dissolution of carbon from refractories of the metal delivery system including the nozzle (19b), the molten steel is a silicon/manganese killed carbon steel having a manganese content of not less than 0.02 % by weight, a silicon content of not less than 0.10 % by weight, an aluminium content of less than 0.01 % by weight and a sulphur content of at least 0.02 % by weight. The required sulphur content of the steel may be achieved by addition of iron sulphide to a batch of steel in a tundish (18) of the delivery system.

摘要： A method and apparatus for casting ferrous metal strip. A casting pool (30) of ferrous molten metal is supported on a pair of chilled generally horizontal casting rolls (22) forming a nip (27) between them. The casting rolls (22) rotate mutually opposite directions to produce a solidified metal strip (12) moving downwardly from the nip (27). The strip (12) passes along a transit path (10) which takes it away from the nip (27) in an unrestrained loop (29) disposed within a strip enclosure (38) within which the strip is confined through said transit path (10). The strip (12) moves downwardly from the nip (27) to form the unrestrained loop (29) passes between a pair of cooled non-contact heat absorbers (101) to which heat is radiated from the strip (12) whereby to extract from the strip heat generated by completion of solidification of metal therein after leaving the casting pool (30). Heat absorbers (101) are formed as opposite side walls of a cooling collar (100) defining an upper part of enclosure (38) and provided with cooling water ducts (102).

摘要： Steel strip (120) produced by a continuous strip caster (40) is treated as it comes from the caster and while it is in line with the caster by applying to the hot strip exiting the caster by means of a coater (201) an oxidation protective coating of a material which is fluid at the temperature of application and susequently removing the coating by a coating removal treatment which includes cooling of the coating by a cooler (204) to cause it to solidify and fracture. The coated strip may be hot rolled by rolls (203) before removal of the coating.
