摘要： A high copper low alloy steel sheet made by the steps comprising preparing a molten melt producing an as-cast low alloy steel comprising by weight, between 0.02 % and 0.3% carbon, between 0.10% and 1.5% manganese, between 0.01% and 0.5% silicon, between 0.002 and 0.0095% sulfur, greater than 0.01 % and less than or equal to 0.15% phosphorus, less than 0.05% aluminum, more than 0.20% copper, less than 0.03 % tin, and less than 0.10 % nickel, and the remainder iron and impurities resulting from melting, and solidifying the molten melt into sheet less than 10 mm in thickness in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to below 1080°C. The copper content may be between 0.2% and 2.0% by weight. The high copper low alloy steel may also have a corrosion index (I) of at least 6.0 in accordance with ASTM G101 where: I = 26.01 (% Cu) + 3.88 (% Ni) + 1.20 (% Cr) + 1.49 (% Si) + 17.28 (% P) - 7.29 (% Cu)(% Ni) - 9.10 (% Ni)(% P) - 33.39 (% Cu)². The high copper low alloy steel may be produced by twin roll casting, and may have thickness less than 5 mm or less than 2 mm in thickness.

摘要： A method of casting steel strip by introducing molten plain carbon steel on casting surfaces at least one casting roll with the molten steel having a free nitrogen content below 120 ppm and a free hydrogen content below about 6.5 ppm measured at atmospheric pressure. The free nitrogen content maybe below about 100 ppm or below about 85 ppm. The free hydrogen content maybe between 1.0 and 6.5 ppm at atmospheric pressure. Novel cast strip of plain carbon steel is produced having a strip thickness less than 5 mm or less than 2 mm by use of the method.

A tilt drive is capable of tilting the upper pinch roll (60A) by a tilt between 0.5 and 5.0mm, measured at the edge of the strip, relative to the lower pinch roll to control steering of the strip.

摘要： Continuous casting of steel strip in twin-roll caster comprises casting rolls (16). Molten steel is delivered by a delivery system and comprising delivery nozzle (19b) to casting pool (30) supported above nip (10) between the casting rolls (16) which are rotated to deliver a solidified strip (20) downwardly from the nip. To avoid dissolution of carbon from refractories of the metal delivery system including the nozzle (19b), the molten steel is a silicon/manganese killed carbon steel having a manganese content of not less than 0.02 % by weight, a silicon content of not less than 0.10 % by weight, an aluminium content of less than 0.01 % by weight and a sulphur content of at least 0.02 % by weight. The required sulphur content of the steel may be achieved by addition of iron sulphide to a batch of steel in a tundish (18) of the delivery system.

摘要： A hot rolling mill (15) and method for operating the hot rolling mill where the shape of a rolled strip (12) is controlled by localized cooling devices (71A, 72A, 71B, 72B) positioned at intervals along work rolls in at least three lateral zones, a central and two edge zones, and capable of separately cooling each zone to control the shape of the work rolls (16A, 16B) in that zone and inhibit the formation of shape defects occurring in the strip (12) being rolled. Five zones may be provided across the work surface of the work rolls (16A, 16B) so that two intermediate zones can control for quarter buckles. The hot rolling mill has particular application in continuously casting thin strip. The method can be made automatic by sensing downstream of the hot mill the shape of the strip in each zone.
