Logic may hash the service set identification (SSID) to generate a compressed SSID and determine multiple compressed SSID segments based upon the compressed SSID. Logic may generate multiple SSID segments by hashing modified versions of the SSID or modifying hashed versions of the SSID. And logic may identify the compressed SSID segment with an index number. Logic may receive one or more compressed SSID segments, determine an index number associated with the segment(s) and compare the received SSID segment against a compressed SSID segment of an SSID that is sought. Logic may generate the multiple compressed SSID segments, store the segments in memory, and compare the compressed SSID segment received in a beacon with a corresponding compressed SSID segment in the memory.

The parameters include offset, wherein a reference point plus the offset indicates a starting time of a wake-up receiver ON window, duration, wherein the duration specifies a time duration of each wake up receiver ON window, and period, wherein the period specifies a time between consecutive starting times of the wake-up receiver ON window and is longer than the duration. The wireless device then encodes the wake-up packet in a wake-up receiver (WUR) management frame to have the offset, duration and period established in accordance with the negotiation, in an element of the WUR management frame comprising a WUR Mode element, a WUR Capability element, or a WUR Operation element. The wireless device transmits the WUR management frame to the one or more stations. The stations may thus decide their power consumption value based on latency and power constraints with minimal complexity.

A station (STA) encodes, for transmission to an access point (AP), an indication that a wireless local area network (WLAN) radio of the STA is being turned off and a request for a latest wake-up packet sequence number (SN). The STA decodes an indication of the latest wake-up packet SN. The STA signals for turning off the WLAN radio and turning on a wake-up receiver (WUR) of the STA. The STA decodes a wake-up packet received at the WUR. the STA determines, based on a message authentication code and a SN of the wake-up packet, and the latest wake-up packet SN, whether the wake-up packet came from the AP. The STA encodes a wake-up signal to the WLAN radio upon determining that the wake-up packet came from the AP.

In some aspects, a station (STA) in a low-power state, such as a WUR mode, can receive a wake-up packet from an access point (AP). In some aspects, the STA can decode from the wake-up packet, a WUR authentication field including an authentication value and calculate a WUR authentication output value based on a WUR authentication input and a WUR authentication function, wherein the apparatus obtains the WUR authentication input and the WUR authentication function during a WUR negotiation with the AP. In some aspects, the STA can compare the WUR authentication output value to the authentication value, and authenticate the received wake-up packet based on the WUR authentication output value matching the authentication value.

If the expected sleep duration value is greater than or equal to the WURThreshold: the STA turns off a WLAN (wireless local area network) radio of the STA and turn on the WUR of the STA; decodes a wake-up packet received at the WUR; and turns on the WLAN radio and turn off the WUR in response to the wake-up packet.

Logic of the receivers may be capable of receiving and detecting signals transmitted at narrower bandwidths. In several embodiments, the receivers comprise a clear channel assessment logic that implements a guard interval (or cyclic prefix) detector to detect transmissions at narrower bandwidths. For instance, a two MegaHertz(MHz) bandwidth receiver may implement a guard interval detector to detect 1MHz bandwidth signals and a 16MHz bandwidth receiver may implement logic to detect one or more 1MHz bandwidth signals and any other combination of, e.g., 1, 2, 4, 8 MHz bandwidth signals. In many embodiments, the guard interval detector may be implemented to detect guard intervals on a channel designated as a primary channel as well as on one or more non-primary channels.
