摘要： A solid polymer electrolyte membrane having a opposing first and second surfaces, where the solid polymer electrolyte member has a failure force greater than about 115 grams and comprises a composite membrane consisting essentially of at least one expanded PTFE membrane having a porous microstructure of polymeric fibrils; at least one ion exchange material impregnated throughout the porous microstructure of the expanded PTFE membrane so as to render an interior volume of the expanded PTFE membrane substantially occlusive; and at least one substantially occlusive, electronically insulating first composite layer interposed between the expanded PTFE membrane and the first surface, the first composite layer comprising a plurality of first carbon particles supporting a catalyst comprising platinum and an ion exchange material, wherein a plurality of the first carbon particles has a particles size less than about 75 nm.

摘要： The invention is a method of reducing catalyst dissolution in the cathode of a membrane electrode assembly fuel cell, said method comprising the steps of: (a) preparing a membrane electrode assembly comprising an anode, a cathode and a polymer electrolyte membrane interposed between said anode and said cathode; (b) assembling a fuel cell using said membrane electrode assembly; (c) applying a fluid comprising an oxidant to said cathode of said membrane electrode assembly; (d) applying a fluid comprising a fuel to said anode of said membrane electrode assembly; and (e) supplying a sufficient quantity of reducing agent to said cathode to maintain the average open-circuit voltage of said cathode at less than about 0.98 V.

摘要： A tapered IDT function is provided in an IDT of a SAW device having fingers substantially parallel to one another by applying a static electric field to a piezoelectric substrate of the SAW device to generate in the substrate a strain which varies across the aperture of the IDT, thereby varying a center frequency of the IDT across the aperture of the IDT. The electric field can be perpendicular to the fingers and created by applying a dc voltage between conductors at least one of which can be tapered or angled, either in the region of the IDT to produce a strain directly or adjacent to the IDT to produce a strain indirectly, or it can be parallel to the fingers, two fields with opposite directions being created at the two sides of the IDT.
