    • The invention relates to a composite optical fibre (1) for a laser comprising a core (2) which is surrounded by a pump guide sheath that is in contact with the core. The pump guide sheath (4) comprises a photonic structure formed by an essentially-regular matrix array of coaxial capillaries which are spaced apart and disposed parallel to the core in a pump guide sheath material. The aforementioned core is disposed in a core material together with doping elements which can be placed in at least one excited electronic state by absorption of the energy of an optical pump signal with a first determined wavelength passing through said core and which can return same by means of deexcitation in the form of an optical signal with a second determined wavelength, said core having a determined diameter and said pump guide sheath having a determined diameter. The invention is characterised in that the pump guide sheath diameter is greater than the core diameter and less than or equal to four times the core diameter, said core diameter being greater than or equal to 35 micrometers.
