摘要： An electrosurgical device includes a body, an end effector, a cutting member, and a shaft. The end effector comprises a pair of jaws and at least one electrode that is operable to deliver RF energy to tissue clamped between the jaws. The cutting member is operable to cut tissue clamped between the jaws. The shaft includes an articulation section that is operable to selectively articulate the end effector relative to the shaft. The body includes a controller operable to selectively actuate the articulation section. The controller may include a trigger that also drives the cutting member, a rotator that also rotates the shaft and end effector, a wedge- shaped pivoting member, a pivotally coupled pair of housing portions, or a pivoting cam member, etc. A release member may selectively release the articulation section from the controller, allowing a resilient bias to return the end effector into alignment with the shaft.

摘要： An electrosurgical device comprises a body, an end effector, a cutting member, and a shaft extending between the body and the end effector. The end effector includes a pair of jaws and at least one electrode operable to deliver RF energy to tissue clamped between the jaws. The cutting member is operable to cut tissue clamped between the jaws. The shaft includes an articulation section that is operable to selectively position the end effector at non-parallel positions relative to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The articulation section may include beads, segments, asymmetric features, preformedly bent features, an integral hinge, a helical cutout or spring, clevis features, an angled joint, a beaded actuation linkage, and/or an offset pivot, among other things. The device may also include a crimped cutting member, a retroacting cutting member, dual pivoting jaws, and/or a wire tensioning assembly.

摘要： A surgical instrument includes a temperature sensor and a control unit that is operable to deactivate an end effector of the surgical instrument. In some versions the temperature sensor detects the temperature of a transducer, while in others the temperature sensor detects the temperature of the end effector. The surgical instrument may also include a trigger and a trigger position sensor. A force sensor or a position sensor may be included to determine the force and/or position of the transmission assembly. The end effector may also include a force sensor or a micro coil. A surgical instrument having a sensor may be included in a surgical system that includes a control unit and a remote controller. In some instances the remote controller may have one or more force-feedback components. In addition, a device interface and a surgeon interface may be included to remotely adjust the settings of the control unit.

摘要： A surgical generator (102) that may produce a drive signal or signals of particular voltages, currents, and frequencies, e.g. 55,500 cycles per second (Hz). The drive signal or signals may be provided to an ultrasonic surgical device (104), and specifically to a transducer. In one embodiment, the generator may be configured to produce a drive signal of a particular voltage, current, and/or frequency that can be stepped with high resolution, accuracy, and repeatability. Additionally, the surgical generator may generate a drive signal or signals with output power sufficient to perform bipolar electrosurgery using radio frequency (RF) energy. The drive signal may be provided, for example, to electrodes of the electrosurgical device (106). Accordingly, the generator may be configured for therapeutic purposes by applying electrical signals to an ultrasonic transducer or electrical energy to the tissue sufficient for treating the tissue (e.g., cutting, coagulation, cauterization, tissue welding).

摘要： An ultrasonic clamp coagulator assembly that is configured to permit selective cutting, coagulation, and fine dissection required in fine and delicate surgical procedures. The assembly includes a clamping mechanism, including a clamp arm cam-mounted at the distal portion of the instrument, which is specifically configured to create a desired level of tissue clamping forces. The balanced blade provides a functional asymmetry for improved visibility at the blade tip and a multitude of edges and surfaces, designed to provide a multitude of tissue effects: clamped coagulation, clamped cutting, grasping, back-cutting, dissection, spot coagulation, tip penetration and tip scoring. The assembly also features hand activation configured to provide an ergonomical grip and operation for the surgeon. Hand switches are placed in the range of the natural axial motion of the user's index or middle fingers, whether gripping the surgical instrument right-handed or left handed.

摘要： Mechanisnns for altering the shape of a cell or chamber of a shaft or an actuation drive of an instrument are provided. The mechanisms may selectively rigidize the shaft of surgical or diagnostic instruments. The shaft assembly includes a shaft operatively connectable to a control member, at least one cell or a set of cells defined within the shaft, a shape altering material contained within the cell or cells, and, an activation link operatively connectable to a source of activation energy for delivering activation energy to each cell for activating the shape altering material to selectively rigidize or unrigidize the shaft. An actuator for producing work is also provided that includes an element within a housing that defines a cell or a set of cells. The shape altering material is contained within the cells, and a source of activation energy operatively connected to each cell for activating the shape altering material to expand or contract the cell. The element is operatively connectable to a driving member of an instrument such that the change in the cell is translated to the driving member to facilitate the production of work.
