    • Disclosed is a process for the manufacture of shaped articles by extrusion blow molding comprising the steps of (1) extruding a copolyester through a die to form a tube of molten copolyester; (2) positioning a mold having the desired finished shape around the tube of molten copolyester; and (3) introducing a gas into the tube of molten copolyester, causing the extrudate to stretch and expand to fill the mold; wherein the copolyester is a linear, copolyester having an inherent viscosity (IV) of at least 0.7 dL/g measured at a temperature of 25°C at 0.25 g/dl concentration in a solvent mixture of symmetric tetrachloroethane and phenol having a weight ratio of symmetric tetrachloroethane to phenol of 2:3 and comprising: (1) a diacid component consisting essentially of 90 to 100 mole percent terephthalic acid residues and 0 to 10 mole percent isophthalic acid residues, naphthalenedicarboxylic acid residues, biphenyldicarboxylic acid residues or a combination of 2 or more of isophthalic, naphthalenedicarboxylic or bipheyldicarboxylic acid residues; and (2) a diol component consisting essentially of 70 to 90 mole percent 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol residues and 30 to 10 mole percent neopentyl glycol residues; wherein the copolyester comprises 100 mole percent diacid component and 100 mole percent diol component. The process is particularly useful for the manufacture of bottles or carboys having and interior volume of 2 to 50 liters.

    • This invention relates to polyester polyesteramide blends comprising: (A) about 95-99.99 weight percent of a polyester which comprises a dicarboxylic acid component comprising repeat units from at least 85 mol % terephthalic acid, naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid or mixtures of terephthalic acid and naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid and a diol component comprising repeat units from at least 85 mol % ethylene glycol, said mole percents being based on 100 mol % dicarboxylic acid and at least 100 mol % diol; and (B) about 5-0.01 weight percent of a polyesteramide of the formula: A(N)x(D)y where A is a dicarboxylic acid selected from aromatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acids having 8 to 14 carbon atoms or aliphatic dicarboxylic acids having 3 to 24 carbon atoms, N is a diamine having 2 to 24 carbon atoms, D is a diol having 2 to 14 carbon atoms, X is an integer from 0.01 to 0.99 and Y is an integer from 0.99 to 0.01. The blends of the present invention display good barrier properties, low color and acetaldehyde concentration. The blends are useful for a variety of molded articles including containers, films and sheets.

    • This invention relates to a process for producing a polyester comprising the steps of: (g) obtaining an aqueous homogenous solution of isosorbide; (h) feeding the aqueous homogenous solution of step (a) into a reactor; (i) feeding one or more glycols and one or more dicarboxylic acids either into the aqueous solution of step (a) or into the reactor of step (b) either prior to, during and/or subsequent to step (b); (j) esterifying the reactor contents at sufficient temperatures and pressures, and optionally in the presence of suitable catalysts, to effect esterificaton; (k) forming a prepolymer; and (l) polycondensing the prepolymer at sufficient temperatures and pressures in the presence of a suitable catalyst to effect polycondensation to form a polyester.

    • Disclosed are amorphous copolyesters having an inherent viscosity (IV) of at least about 0.4 dL/g measured at a temperature of 25°C at 0.25 g/dl concentration in a solvent mixture of symmetric tetrachloroethane and phenol having a weight ratio of symmetric tetrachloroethane to phenol of 2:3 comprising (1) a diacid component consisting essentially of about 90 to 100 mole percent terephthalic acid residues and 0 to about 10 mole percent isophthalic acid residues; and (2) a diol component consisting essentially of about 10 to 70 mole percent 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol residues and about 90 to 30 mole percent neopentyl glycol residues; wherein the amorphous copolyesters comprises 100 mole percent diacid component and 100 mole percent diol component. The amorphous copolyesters are useful in the manufacture or fabrication of medical devices which have improved resistance to degradation upon exposure to lipids, as a profile produced by profile extrusion and as an injection molded article. Also, a method of melt processing the amorphous copolyester is disclosed which allows for performing a minimal drying or no drying of the copolyester prior to melt processing.
