    • In an arrangement for casting films, extruded plastic material is discharged from a slot nozzle (1) and is chilled on the cooled circumferential surface (6) of a casting roll (2). The obtained film web (8) surrounds the casting roll (2) along a large angular spread and is lifted off the casting roll (2) by means of a withdrawing roll (3). The film web (8) has a certain distance from the lateral surfaces (7) of the casting roll such that lateral zones (25) in which polymer accumulates are formed on the circumferential surface (6) of the casting roll. A strip-type guiding part (10) that has a flexible linear member (11) is arranged in the zone of the circumferential surface (6) that remains free. The linear member (11) is fed from a supply reel (13) to a take-up reel (17) via a first (14) and a second deflection roll (15). The rotating casting roll (2) pulls the flexible linear member (11) towards the guiding part (10) as a result of the circumferential moving direction of the casting roll (2). The guiding part (10) moves in the longitudinal direction (12) thereof and cleans the circumferential surface (6) of the casting roll from polymer dust which particularly collects in the edge regions (25) of the casting roll (2).
