    • The present invention relates to an ethylenically unsaturated hydroxyl-terminated polyurethane (I) obtained by reacting (i) at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound (A) containing at least two reactive groups capable of reacting with isocyanate groups and at least one ethylenically unsaturated group; with (ii) at least one saturated alcohol component (B) comprising: (iia) at least one saturated hydroxylated compound (B1) containing hydrophilic groups capable of rendering the polyurethane dispersible in aqueous medium either directly or after the reaction with a neutralizing agent to provide a salt, and, optionally, at least one compound (B2) that is selected from saturated polyester polyols (B21) and/or from saturated polycarbonate polyols (B22); and/or (iib) at least one compound (B3) that is selected from saturated polyester polyols (B31) containing compound (B1) moieties and/or from saturated polycarbonate polyols (B32) containing compound (B1) moieties; and, optionally, one or more of compounds (B1) and/or (B2); (iii) optionally, at least one ethylenically unsaturated compound (C) containing essentially one reactive group capable of reacting with isocyanate groups; with (iv) at least one polyisocyanate (D) selected from a tetramethylxylenediisocyanate. The present invention further relates to dispersions in water containing same, to their production and uses.

    • There is disclosed process for preparing a substrate 1. Process for preparing a substrate having thereon sites reactive with the reactive groups of a molecular probe, the process comprising the steps of applying to the substrate surface a material comprising one or more reactive sites having an activated ethylenically unsaturated double bond of the formula I: Wherein, if n= 0, m= 1, X 3 is carbon and X 1 is nitrogen, the bond between them being triple, and X 4 does not exist; if n= 1, m= 1, X 3 is carbon and X 1 is oxygen or sulphur, the bond between them being double, and X 2 is oxygen or sulphur or nitrogen substituted by an organo substituent; if n= 1, m= 1 or 2, X 3 is sulphur and X 1 is oxygen, the bond between them being double, and X 2 is nitrogen substituted by an organo substituent; R 1 , R 2 , each independently represent hydrogen, hydroxyl or organo group, R 3 and R 4 each independently represent hydrogen or organo group, eventually containing a silicon atom R 1 and R 2 being not linked to R 4 . and, in a further step, of covalently binding the reactive group of the molecular probe to the activated ethylenically unsaturated double bond of the reactive sites having formula I. Preferred strong links are covalent bonds. Preferred linking reactions are Michael addition reactions. The substrate having probes deposed thereon may be used to interact with a target. Other aspects of the invention relate to substrates and multi-reactive systems (such as microarrays) so prepared; uses thereof; and products and information obtained therefrom.
