    • Laser-based methods and systems for selectively processing or damaging biological target material characterized by an absorptive coefficient in a therapeutic procedure are provided. The lasers typically are fiber lasers. Also, methods and systems which use spectroscopy are provided to selectively diagnose the presence of certain tissue types. One of the methods includes generating an output laser beam along a propagation path. The beam has optical and temporal properties and a predetermined wavelength based on the absorptive coefficient of the target material. The path extends through an opening in a body and into an interior body cavity. The method further includes delivering and focusing the output laser beam into a plurality of spots on the target material for a duration sufficient to allow laser energy to be absorbed by the target material and converted to heat to produce a desired physical change in the target material without causing undesirable changes to adjacent non-target material having an absorptive coefficient different than the target material at the predetermined wavelength.

    • An all-digital display system includes an electronic processor that is operable to receive an internet protocol video packet and to generate a control signal based at least in part on the internet protocol video packet. In one particular embodiment, the electronic processor includes at least a header processor (200), a CPU electronic processor (300), and a display processor unit (400). The all-digital display system also includes one or more light sources (501) capable of generating one or more optical signals and one or more light modulating chips (506). The one or more light modulating chips are operable to receive the one or more optical signals and to modulate the one or more optical signals based at least in part on the control signal. The all-digital display system further comprises one or more display screens (510) operable to receive the modulated signals communicated from the light modulating chips.

    • A broadband light source includes one or more laser diodes that are capable of generating a pump signal having a wavelength shorter than 2.5 microns, a pulse width of at least 100 picoseconds and a pump optical spectral width. The light source also includes one or more optical amplifiers that are coupled to the pump signal and are capable of amplifying the pump signal to a peak power of at least 500W. The light source further includes a first fiber that is coupled to the one or more optical amplifiers. The first fiber including an anomalous group-velocity dispersion regime and a modulational instability mechanism that operates to modulate the pump signal. In one particular embodiment, the pump signal wavelength resides in the anomalous group- velocity dispersion regime of the first fiber and where different intensities in the pump signal can cause relative motion between different parts of the modulated pump signal produced through modulational instability in the first fiber. The light source also including a nonlinear element that is coupled to the first fiber that is capable of broadening the pump optical spectral width to at least 100nm through a nonlinear effect in the nonlinear element.

    • A supercontinuum light source includes a modulated pump laser, a first fiber, and a nonlinear waveguide. The modulated pump laser generates light comprising longer pulses, where a longer pulse has a temporal duration of approximately ten picoseconds or more. The first fiber breaks at least one longer pulse into shorter pulses, where a shorter pulse has a temporal duration of approximately two picoseconds or less. The first fiber at least partially operates in an anomalous group velocity dispersion regime, and the shorter pulses result from a modulational instability in the first fiber. The nonlinear waveguide spectrally broadens the shorter pulses to yield supercontinuum light, where the supercontinuum light has a spectral width of approximately 150 nanometers or more.
