    • A method for delineating an ablation lesion (10) having concentric inner (12) and outer (14) lesion regions using magnetic resonance (MR) information is provided. The method includes providing a deformable model having parameters defining concentric inner and outer ellipsoid surfaces, generating boundaries from the MR information, and fitting the model parameters to the boundaries so that the model delineates the inner (11) and outer (14) lesion regions. The lesion boundaries can be generated by manually segmenting the lesion using the MR information. The lesion boundaries can also be generated by automatically segmenting the lesion using the MR information. The lesion boundaries can also be generated by automatically segmenting the lesion using the MR information. The fitting step can include minimizing an objective function f(Ø) defining the sum of squared distances di in (Ø in ) and dj out (Ø out ) from boundary surface points to the ellipsoid surfaces defined by the model parameters. Alternatively, the fitting step can include minimizing an objective function E(Ø) accounting for model position with respect to MR imaging grayscale edges.

    • A method of suppressing a first chemical species in a subject in MR imaging includes generating a first spiral trajectory in k-space which acquires the center of the spiral, and generating a second spiral trajectory in k-space retraversing a portion of the first spiral trajectory to the center after a delay, wherein the delay is the time required for the first chemical species to rotate out of phrase with a second chemical species in the subject. The method further includes combining the first and second spiral trajectories to suppress the signal of the first chemical species in the portion of k-space defined by second spiral trajectory, and repeating the steps of generating the first and second spiral trajectories to form a plurality of trajectory interleaf pairs each covering a different portion of k-space. An MR image is generated using the trajectory interleaf pairs in which the first chemical species is suppressed relative to the second chemical species.
