摘要： The present invention advantageously provides a system for automatically delivering oxygen to a patient, including a sensor to measure an amount of oxygen in a bloodstream of a patient, a pneumatics subsystem (30) and a control subsystem (20). The pneumatics subsystem includes an oxygen inlet (36), an air inlet (37), a gas mixture outlet (38), and a gas delivery mechanism to blend the oxygen and air to form a gas mixture having a delivered oxygen concentration, and to deliver the gas mixture to the patient. The control subsystem includes an input device to receive a desired concentration of oxygen in the bloodstream of the patient, a sensor interface (14) to receive measurement data and status information associated with the measurement data from the sensor (10), a pneumatics subsystem interface (34) to send commands to, and receive data from, the pneumatics subsystem, and a processor (22) to control the delivered oxygen concentration based on the desired oxygen concentration, the measurement data and the status information.

摘要： A method is described for communicating among multiple devices over a shared communication medium. The method includes, in a schedule among multiple subsets of the devices that includes at least one respective time slot for each subset, transmitting from at least one of the devices in a given subset a presence signal associated with the given subset within a time slot for the given subset. 摘要： An information search mechanism provides control over the relaxation of search queries to users that are requesting searches. Through this mechanism, users can specify a sequence of sub-queries that is associated with variations of the main search criteria, and specify a progression in which to execute the sub-queries. Hence, users can impart their priorities with respect to search term variations used in relaxing the main search criteria, which further allows the users to impart their notion of the relevance of results that may be returned by particular sub-queries. A query that includes a sequence of sub-queries is received and the sub-queries are executed, if at all, by a database server in an order based on the progression specified by the user. Response time and network loading are improved through reduction of unnecessary work by the database server and through reduction of costly communications between client and server and associated processing.

摘要： The invention relates to a system for training medical practitioners in the use of medical devices. A practitioner, unfamiliar to a new device, is allowed to practice with the device in a simulated clinical environment on a manikin (4). The system then compares the way in which the practitioner uses the device to a pre-defined standard by measuring responses made by sensors (2) embedded in the manikin and comparing them to certain allowable combinations of ranges of values. If the sensors (2) make their responses within certain permitted ranges, the use meets the standard and the practitioner is certified as being qualified to use the device. The practitioner is then monitored when using the device on a real patient (3). The system compares the way in which the practitioner uses the device to a predefined standard by measuring responses made by patient sensors (1) and comparing them to certain allowable combinations of ranges of values. If the monitored use meets the standard set by the system, the practitioner is deemed competent to practice on real patients.
