摘要： A control assembly provides haptic feedback to the user of a device such as a smartphone. The button includes a shape memory alloy actuator which moves the button laterally with respect to the finger press. The actuator can be programmed and controlled to provide a variety of haptic waveforms. The control assembly may be used in combination with a capacitive sensor provides a tactile feedback which is not otherwise present with a capacitive control. The control assembly used in combination with a mechanical control provides a range of haptic waveforms not otherwise possible with a mechanical control. The control assembly can be used in smartphones, wearables, keyboards and other portable electronic devices.

摘要： A haptic assembly comprises a chassis, a mass movably supported on the chassis; and at least one SMA actuator wire arranged, on contraction, to move the mass relative to the chassis. SMA provides actuation with a relatively large force which provides an improved haptic effect. A trigger element releases a retention element holding the mass against a resilient element loaded by the SMA. Drive signal powers may be controlled using resistance-based closed-loop control to allow shaping of the haptic waveform. Alternatively, the degree of movement may be increased by using a drive signal having sufficient power during an initial period that the mass achieves a sufficient velocity to cause the SMA actuator wire to go slack. A secondary actuator arrangement may be mounted on said mass to additionally generate vibrational movement.

摘要： A shape memory alloy actuation apparatus comprises a movable element supported on a support structure by a suspension system comprising a plurality of resilient flexures. A shape memory alloy actuator drives movement of the movable element on contraction. An end-stop limits the movement of the movable element in the opposite direction. Rather than using the resilient flexures of the suspension system as the sole biassing means, an additional Massing element biasses the movable element against the SMA actuator. When the moveable element is held against the end-stop, the force applied by the biassing element is greater than the force applied by the flexures of the suspension system. This reduces the design constraints, for example allowing a greater range of movement.
