    • A beer dispensing device comprises a fitment (7) for fitting to the tap (9), a sensor (24) for sensing the quantity of beer dispensed from the tap (9) on turning on of the tap, a pivot lever (4) and arm (1) for engaging the tap (9), and an electronic control box (3) for causing the pivot lever (4) to be rotated under spring (28) action to turn off the tap (9) in response to an indication from the sensor (24) that the required quantity of beer has been dispensed from the tap (9). Such a device is particularly applicable to the dispensing of beer at a public bar as it allows substantially hands free operation after the bartender has initiated dispensing by opening of the tap, and therefore allows more flexible and faster service through multi-tasking by the bartender.

    • An orthopaedic skeletal demonstration aid for demonstrating surgical orthopaedic techniques comprises a facsimile of part of a vertebral column including five vertebral elements (2) and a sacrum (3) individually moulded from a synthetic material capable of replicating the fine structure of the bone surface so as to correctly reproduce the actual external appearance of the lower part of the human spinal. Adjacent vertebral elements (2) are connected together by connecting portions (9), each of which has a ball (11) at one end and a socket (12) at the other end such that adjacent vertebral elements (2) are interconnected by the ball(11) of the connecting portion (9) of one vertebral element (2) snapping into the socket (12) of the connecting portion (9) of the other vertebral element (2) so as to hold the vertebral elements (2) firmly together whilst enabling articulation of the vertebral elements (2) relative to one another. This has the advantage that each vertebral element (2) is capable of being detached without disturbing the attachment of the other vertebral elements, so as to enable one or more damaged vertebral elements to be replaced so that the aid can be reused. Furthermore the articulation of the vertebral elements relative to one another enables simulation of a plurality of anatomical distortions that occur in the spine, for the purpose of demonstrating a wide range of replacement or repair techniques.

    • An orthopaedic skeletal joint demonstration aid (1) is provided for demonstrating surgical orthopaedic techniques and comprises first and second joint portions (11, 12) capable of being manipulated relative to one another to mimic the action of a skeletal joint. The first joint portion (11) is detachably secured to one end of an elongate first shaft portion (2) to enable replacement of the first joint portion (11). Furthermore an adjustable holding mechanism (5) is provided for holding a part of the first shaft portion (2) remotely of said one end in a required position such that the first joint portion (11) is at the correct anatomical orientation for the purposes of the required surgical orthopaedic procedure. The holding mechanism (5) comprises an adjustable ball and socket joint and a locking mechanism for locking the ball and socket joint when the first shaft portion (2) is in the required position. In addition a foot plate (6) is provided for holding the second joint portion, and the second shaft portion (3) to which it is detachably connected, in the required position.
