The feed unit has a rotary device having a supply region (4) and one or more channels (7) adapted to receive components from the supply region (4) such that the components are stacked one on top of another within each channel (7). One of the inlet (5) and the supply region (4) is configured to reciprocate relative to the other to agitate the components in the supply region (4) so that components pass into the channel (7).

摘要： Apparatus and Method for Filter Manufacture A filter rod for a smoking article comprises an extruded hardened inner core of a first filter material and an outer core of a second filter material which surrounds the inner core. The second filter material is of a softer texture than the first filter material. The filter rod further comprises a plug wrap around the outer core. Also, an apparatus for manufacturing such a filter rod comprises an inner duct having an inlet to receive a first filter material including a plasticiser and an outlet through which the first filter material is expelled. An outer duct has an inlet to receive a second filter material and an outlet through which the second filter material is expelled. The inner duct is disposed within the outer duct to enable formation of a continuous body of filter material comprising an inner core of the first filter material surrounded by an outer core of the second filter material. A wrapping station is disposed proximate the outlets of the inner and outer ducts to provide a plug wrap around the continuous body of filter material. The inner duct includes at least one steam inlet for the introduction of steam into the inner duct to heat the first filter tow material as it is conveyed through the inner duct to form a hardened inner core. Also a method of manufacturing such a filter rod is described.

摘要： A filter for a smoking article comprising an extruded rod of filter material. The outer surface of the filter rod comprises a plurality of continuous open grooves extending in an axial direction of the rod. Also disclosed is an apparatus for manufacturing such filters. The apparatus comprises a duct having an inlet and an outlet. The duct tapers between the inlet and the outlet such that loose filter material and plasticiser fed into the inlet is compressed as it is conveyed through the duct into a rod which is expelled from the outlet. The duct is provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting elements to form grooves into the outer surface of the rod of filter material. The apparatus further comprising a heating region to cure plasticiser entrained with the filter material and thereby harden the grooved filter rod. Also disclosed is a method of manufacture of such filters.
