    • An apparatus for the remote measuring of a physical size, by means of a sensor (20) receiving luminous flux alternately transmitted by two light sources (10, 12) and achieving a spectral modulation of the luminous flux received at a frequency corresponding to the physical size X to be measured, whereby the luminous flux transmitted by the sensor is received by analyzer means (24) which contain polarization separating cubes (28, 40, 42) linked to photosensitive cells (50) and to information processing means, in order to determine the absolute phase of the luminous signal received and to deduce therefrom the value of the size X to be measured. The invention allows for very high-accuracy measurements of physical sizes at a distance.
