    • A piston compressor for gaseous media, preferably air, has a piston rod (56) that moves back and forth within a cylinder (60) and is rigidly fixed to a piston (58) provided with a passage for the gaseous medium to be sucked from the lower side of the piston. The passage further has an inlet valve that opens when the piston (58) moves upwards and closes when the piston (58) moves downwards. The compression chamber (V) in the cylinder (60) defined by the top dead centre of the piston (58) may be adjusted in that the lower edge of the cylinder (60) is joined to the crankcase (62) by threads (66). The outlet valve (92) is centrally arranged in the piston (58) and is thermally uncoupled from an adjustable outlet.
