    • Described herein is a stapling device and method used to apply one or more fasteners to body tissue. In one embodiment, a fastener-applying device, which is preferably a stapler, is passed transorally into the stomach and used to plicate stomach tissue by engaging tissue from inside of the stomach and drawing it inwardly. In the disclosed embodiments, the tissue is drawn inwardly into a vacuum chamber, causing sections of serosal tissue on the exterior of the stomach to be positioned facing one another. The disclosed staplers allow the opposed sections of tissue to be moved into contact with one another, and preferably deliver staples for maintaining contact between the tissue sections at least until serosal bonds form between them. Each of these steps may be performed wholly from the inside of the stomach and thus can eliminate the need for any surgical or laparoscopic intervention, After one or more plications are formed, medical devices may optionally be coupled to the plication(s) for retention within the stomach.

    • A cigarette lighter has a removable fuel cartridge. The cartridge has a transparent portion and the lighter housing is an opaque shell surrounding the reservoir with a viewing window there-through. The viewing window is aligned with the transparent portion of the reservoir to allow external observation of the amount of fuel within said chamber. The transparent portion includes indicia for gauging the amount of fuel in the reservoir during the external observation.     • A method of effecting delayed release of a fluid (19) comprises providing the fluid in a vessel (12) having a discharge aperture (14) provided with a polymeric barrier (15) to fluid release. The barrier (15) is caused to degrade to provide for failure of the barrier and discharge of the fluid. The liquid to be discharged may be an aqueous medium and the barrier (15) may be of a polymeric material capable of forming in the presence of the aqueous medium a gel that will dissolve therein so as to cause failure of the barrier. The polymeric material may be a cellulose ether. The fluid may, for example, comprise a culture of microorganisms which are subjected to pre-enrichment in the vessel for a predetermined period of time prior to failulre of the barrier (15) and discharge of the culture into, for example, a selective medium.
