    • A fossil fuel fired power plant for the generation of electrical energy comprises a water steam cycle and a plant (10) for the capture of CO2 from exhaust gases emitted by the power plant and a steam jet ejector (24) configured and arranged to receive an input steam flow from a low- or intermediate pressure extraction point in the power plant and to increase its pressure. It is further arranged to receive motive steam (25) from a further extraction point in the power plant. A steam line (27, 22) directs the steam of increased pressure from the steam jet ejector (24) to the CO2 capture plant (10). The power plant according to this invention allows the use of low-pressure steam for the operation of the CO2 capture plant, where the extraction of such steam affects the overall efficiency of the power plant to a lesser degree than in power plant of the state of the art.

    • Since CO2 is identified as a main greenhouse gas, its capture and storage is essential to control global warming. Increased competitiveness of power plants designed for CO2 capture and compression, retrofit ready power plants including efficient ways to retrofit power plants to CO2 capture plants will allow earlier utilization of CO2 capture systems (12). The objective of the present invention is to provide a fossil fired power plant (1, 2) with increased operational flexibility, which allows operation with high efficiency when a steam is extracted for the operation of a CO2 capture system (12) as well as when the CO2 capture system (12) is not operating and no steam is extracted. Further, a method to operate this kind of plant (1, 2) is an objective of the invention. An additional objective is to provide a power plant, (1, 2) which is prepared for future retrofit of a CO2 capture system (12) and is already provided with a steam cycle capable of operation with high efficiency with or without steam extraction. One main aspect of the invention is to provide a water steam cycle with two steam turbine arrangements (14, 15), one for continuous operation independent of CO2 capture operation, and one which can at least partially be shut down during CO2 capture operation.

Further, a power plant, which is ready for the retrofit of a CO2 capture plant and a method of retrofitting an existing plant into a power plant with CO2 capture as well as a method to operate this kind of plant are the object of the invention. One main aspect of the invention is to add a power plant part, which is capable of providing the steam and power required to operate CO2 capture system (12), and to provide a CO2 capture system (12), which has the capacity to remove CO2 from the flue gas flows of the conventional, and of the additional power plant part.

Flexible operation of CCPPs (combined cycle power plants) with CO2 capture system (18) will increase the competitiveness of CCPPs designed for CO2 capture and will allow earlier introduction of this kind of plants. The main objective of the present invention is to increase the CCPP net power and improve the operating characteristics by taking advantage of the additional power and flexibility, which can be obtained with supplementary firing (10) in CCPPs with flue gas recirculation and CO2 capture systems (18). One particular aim is to minimize the impact of CO2 capture on the capacity of a power plant, i.e. to maximize the electric power the plant can deliver to the power grid. To this end an operating method, in which the power consumption of CO2 capture system is at least partly compensated by the operation of supplementary firing (10) in a HRSG (9) with low residual oxygen concentration in the flue gases (8), which is due to flue gas recirculation, is proposed. Further, additional ambient air and/or oxygen (11 ) injection into the supplementary firing (10) with corresponding operating methods are proposed. Besides the method a CCPP designed to operate according to this method is subject of the present invention.
