    • Since CO2 is identified as a main greenhouse gas, its capture and storage is essential to control global warming. Flexible operation of CCPPs (combined cycle power plants) with CO2 capture system (18) will increase the competitiveness of CCPPs designed for CO2 capture and will allow earlier introduction of this kind of plants. The main objective of the present invention is to increase the CCPP net power and improve the operating characteristics by taking advantage of the additional power and flexibility, which can be obtained with supplementary firing (10) in CCPPs with flue gas recirculation and CO2 capture systems (18). One particular aim is to minimize the impact of CO2 capture on the capacity of a power plant, i.e. to maximize the electric power the plant can deliver to the power grid. To this end an operating method, in which the power consumption of CO2 capture system is at least partly compensated by the operation of supplementary firing (10) in a HRSG (9) with low residual oxygen concentration in the flue gases (8), which is due to flue gas recirculation, is proposed. Further, additional ambient air and/or oxygen (11 ) injection into the supplementary firing (10) with corresponding operating methods are proposed. Besides the method a CCPP designed to operate according to this method is subject of the present invention.

    • The invention relates to a combined cycle power plant (10a) comprising a gas turbine (11a,b) the exhaust gas outlet of which is connected to a heat recovery steam generator (19), which is part of a water/steam cycle (35), whereby, for having a large power reserve and at the same time a higher design performance when operated at base load, the gas turbine (11a) is designed with a steam injection capability (26) for power augmentation. For having a large power reserve at improved and optimized design performance when the plant is being operated at base load, the gas turbine (11a) comprises at least one combustor (15, 16), and a compressor (12) for providing cooling air for that gas turbine (11a,b), which is extracted from the compressor (12) and cooled down in at least one cooling air cooler (17, 18). The steam for steam injection is generated in said cooling air cooler (17, 18), whereby said steam is injected into an air side inlet or outlet of said cooling air cooler (17, 18) and/or directly into said at least one combustor (15, 16). The heat recovery steam generator (19) is equipped with a supplementary firing (22, 22´), which is at least a single stage supplementary firing (22) to increase the high pressure steam production and providing augmentation power as power reserve to a grid when required.
