摘要： Medical applications of orthogonal polarization spectral (OPS) imaging technology are provided. This technology provides for a high contrast image of sub-surface phenomena such as blood vessel structure, blood flow within vessels, gland structure, etc., as well as a high resolution image of the surface of solid organs. Numerous clinical (diagnostic and therapeutic), as well as research applications of this technology, in the medical and pharmaceutical fields, are discussed.

摘要： Red cells are separated from plasma or serum of whole blood by arranging an evacuated tube (2) sealed by a self-sealing stopper (26) above and preferably coaxial with a tube (4) containing a blood sample and sealed by a self-sealing stopper (28). A hollow double ended needle (14) is held by a fixture (6) and is disposed between and coaxial with the tubes (2, 4) and the tubes are placed in the fixture (6) in a vertical position in a centrifuge (84) and rotated about and spaced from an axis parallel to the axis of the tubes and needle. After the red cells are separated from the serum and/or plasma, the tubes (2, 4) are pushed toward one another so that the needle (14) penetrates both stoppers and the serum and/or plasma is drawn into the upper tube (2). The tubes (2, 4) and needle (14) are separated while still being rotated so that the whole blood components are separated as required.

Low-energy, non-destructive electromagnetic radiation, such as visible or near-infrared light, can be used.

摘要： Apparatus and methods for in vivo determination of red blood cell characteristics from a flow of red blood cells in mucous membranes wherein image capturing means (20) are employed to optically isolate images from a flow of red blood cells and transmit those images to an image receiving means (28) for encoding into electronic signals. The images are also filtered through light filters and subsequently transmitted to a computer (30) for evaluation and analysis. The results of this analysis are then made available for display either on a CRT or hard copy printer (31).
