摘要： An improved method of forming a vehicle trim part includes the initial step of securing an insert (26) to a vinyl-skin (32) in a vacuum mold (22). The cloth insert (26) is attached to the outer face of the skin (32), and the two are then placed into a foam mold (36, 48) as a single preform. In this way, if the cloth (26) is improperly connected to the skin (32), the part can be identified as scrap before foam (50) is injected to complete the part. Since the preform (35) is moved into the foam mold, foam (50) is injected behind the part. Since the preform (35) is positioned within the mold as a single part, the invention more accurately positions the insert (26) and skin (32) relative to the mold prior to faom injection. Again, this improves the quality and appearance of the vinyl part.

The formed substrate (44) is then moved to a second bonding tool (46). A cover layer (22) and an adhesive layer (24) are actuated in the bonding tool to secure the cover layer to the substrate. The bonding tool preferably consists of a heated upper portion (48) adjacent the cover layer and the adhesive, and a cooled lower portion (52) which receives the base material. The use of the cooled bottom portion maintains the dimensional accuracy of the base layer during the bonding process. The heated upper layer ensures efficient and quick actuation of the adhesive to bond the cover layer to the substrate.

摘要： An improved method and apparatus for assembling a wire harness, and then securing that wire harness to a vehicle trim panel includes the use of adhesive strips. The strips are placed in a welding station prior to the wire harness being assembled through the welding stations. Once the wire harness is fully assembled, the trim panel is placed above the jig. The welding stations are provided with structure to actuate the strips and secure the strips to the trim panel. The strips then capture and hold the wires on the trim panel. In this way, the wire harness may be directly attached to the trim panel after its assembly.

A plurality of electrical devices are secured in the frame and the trim panel for carrying out various tasks and operations. A plurality of electrical wires are secured to the outer surface of the trim panel and electrically connect to the several electrical devices. Wire routing elements extend from the outer surface of the trim panel for individually and sequentially securing the plurality of electrical wires on the outer surface of the trim panel to eliminate the need for a prefabricated wiring harness. The routing elements may comprise a series of L-shaped posts between which the electrical wires are woven, a series of tabs having a V-shaped receiving notch into which the wires are seated, channels along which the electrical wires are secured by glue, or self-locking strap-like clamps for clamping the electrical wires to the trim panel. The individual electrical wires are routed directly, so that a separate wire harness is eliminated. Also, the subject method eliminates one step on the automobile assembly line process, namely the attachment of the prior art wiring harness to the door frame or to the trim panel.

The control stalk includes a collar received on the track, which moves along the track. In a preferred embodiment, the track defines a pivot point for the control stalk, wherein the pivot point is spaced from the stalk and track. The control stalk makes selective electric contact with contact points on the base.
