An exemplary apparatus (10) is capable of performing various tasks, including automatically transferring live flies from a donor container (32) to a recipient container (34), such as for the purpose of feeding the flies. The apparatus (10) includes an anesthetizing mechanism (82) configured to automatically introduce an anesthetic, such as gaseous C02, into a donor container (32) of live flies to temporarily immobilize the flies before the flies are transferred to the recipient container (34). The apparatus also includes a gas manifold (98) that is configured to direct a flow of gas from a compressed-gas source into the donor container (32) such that the immobilized flies are blown from the donor container (32) into the recipient container (34).

In the relative position of the clamping portions in which the knife (12) is clamped and in their relative positions in which a space is opened up around the knife permitting its removal, the clamping portions are rigidly disposed with respect to one another.

摘要： The present invention provides apparatus and methods for collecting a plurality of measured quantities of a powdered material and dispensing each of the measured quantities to, for example, a multi-well vessel. Vacuum is used to collect the powdered material and at least one of gravity, a gas push, or a physical push is used to dispense the powdered material. Apparatus and methods of the invention are particularly useful for collection and delivery of powdered materials in high throughput chemical synthesis and biological assay environments where accurate measurement and dispensing of powders is critical.

摘要： A multi-well assembly (10) according to one embodiment comprises a multi-well block (12) and a guide plate (14). The multi-well block defines a plurality of wells (18), with each well having a fluid-impermeable bottom surface (22). The guide plate defines a plurality of fluid passageways corresponding to the wells of the multi-well block. The guide plate is configured such that, whenever the guide plate is registered with the multi-well block, fluid communication is established between each well and an associated fluid passageway. The guide plate enables iterative chemical or biological processes using multiple multi-well blocks. A seal plate (70) is configured to cut fluid communication conferred by the guide plate via registration with the guide plate, or via registration with the multi-well block (once the guide plate is removed). The seal plate allows iterative chemical or biological processes within a single multi-well block.
