    • A transmission for an engine or motor with a reduced package size and increased efficiency comprising: an input sprocket, an output sprocket, a chain, and a planetary gear set. The output sprocket is drivingly connecting to the input sprocket through the chain. The output sprocket has a hollow center portion that receives the sun gear of the planetary gear set. The planetary gear set also includes at least two planet gears meshed with the sun gear which are mounted to a fixed planet carrier for driving a differential with a ring gear portion. When the input sprocket is rotated in a first direction, the chain drives the output sprocket and the sun gear in the first direction, and the sun gear drives the planet gears to rotate in a second direction, opposite the first direction, driving the ring gear portion and differential in the second direction.

    • A phaser (22) includes a housing (44) , a rotor (42) , a phaser control valve (36) and a regulated pressure control system (RPCS) . The phaser control valve (36) directs fluid to shift the relative angular position of the rotor relative to the housing (44) . The RPCS has a controller, which provides a set point based on engine parameters . A signal is then produced based on the set point and is sent to the direct control pressure regulator valve. (38) The direct control pressure regulator valve (38) has a supply port (5) and a control port (5) , where the supply port (5) receives a supply fluid pressure from a source and regulates the pressure based on a signal, to a control pressure. The control pressure biases an end of the spool of the phase control valve (36) against a spring (66) , such that the relative angular position of the housing (44) and the rotor (42) is shifted. A method of controlling a phaser (22) is also disclosed.

    • A phaser for an engine having at least one camshaft comprising a housing, a rotor, a control valve, an actuator, and a pulse wheel. The rotor connects to a camshaft coaxially located within the housing. The housing and the rotor define at least one vane separating a chamber in the housing. The vane is capable of rotation to shift the relative angular position of the housing and the rotor. The control valve is received by the rotor and directs fluid to the chambers of the phaser. The actuator positions the control valve and has at least one integrated position sensor, such that electrical connections for the actuator and the integrated position sensor are made through one connection, decreasing leakage of fluid from the phaser. A pulse wheel is mounted on the phaser for rotation therewith and in alignment with the integrated position sensor of the actuator.

When the first shaft rotates and firing frequency of the engine coincides with a resonant frequency of the first shaft, the spring loaded weights slide in the chambers of the damper, dampening out the resonant frequency in the first shaft and when the sprocket rotates the spring compresses and extends, reducing torsional load of the first shaft on the second shaft.
